Headlight Washers...

Why Can't you get Headlamp washers on the 28i models with M Package??
Does anyone owns a X1 xDrive28i with Ultimate package and M Package and has the "headlamp washers"??

Headlight washers are EVIL!!!! Worst BMW feature ever. I'm so glad we don't have them on our X1. I have them on my 1M and our previous 2 Mini Coopers, and all they do is make your whole car dirty.

They're evil because there's no way to disable the automated spraying.
This wouldn't be so bad if the sprayers used their own reservoir with pure water instead of windshield washer, but they don't. And windshield washer is not intended for plastic, like the BMWs headlights.

Take a look the next time you're in a parking lot. Which cars have cloudy headlights, and do they have headlight washers?

Someone in the past mentioned headlight washers only activate if your headlights are on but my car is at port so I can't check it to confirm.

All my cars without headlight washers get cloudy just the same. If you don't like the feature you could just plug the hose I'd imagine. In bad snow storms having washer fluid on plastic isn't as bad as salt, especially if the washer fluid cleans baked on salt off so your headlights project better.

In more tropical areas I can see headlight washers as a less useful feature.

The headlight washers are part of the Cold Weather Package. You can't get the Cold Weather Package with the M Sport Package as the M Sport steering wheel is not heated; thus negating the package.

Aren't the headlight washers standard on the 35i. I wish I had a heated M steering wheel but don't want the headlight washers.

In Australia, headlight washers are mandatory for cars fitted with Xenon headlights (as is self levelling)

If you want to kill the headlight washers simply pull the fuse.

It was one of the first things I did to both the M Coupe and the X1. I hated that spray covering the front of the car especially after washing them. Now I can use the windshield washer and not have to worry about making sure the lights are off or anything silly like that. If you want them functional again just pop the fuse in.

I believe it's #48 but don't hold me to that as it's been a while. It's listed on the fuse diagram behind the glove box.

Can't say they're "evil" but I find them USELESS. I live in northern VA and we get our fair share of nasty weather, including snow and ice, and I've never had a need for them. Including them in the Cold Weather package is the SOLE reason I didn't buy that package.

Headlamp washers are worthless.

I have them on my Nissan 300ZX. They're spray action only with no wiper blades. When it comes time for me to sell this car, I doubt that any buyer will care whether the headlamp washers work or not.

They’re worthless because they only spray the headlamps. There’s no wiper blade to act a squeegee. In order to wash windows/clean glass, you have to do both: apply a liquid cleaner and squeegee the glass. If I remember correctly, some of the older Volvo models had headlamp wiper blades but I don’t see them on any current production cars.

Unfortunately with the X1’s cold weather package option, you can’t pick and choose which features you want and don’t want within the package so it’s all or nothing.

If you're stuck with them, find the fuse for the headlight washers and pull it.
