Hello everyone,

I’m looking into purchasing an E84. I found a few nice 2013 models but originally wanted a 14/15. To my knowledge, there are better ConnectedDrive telematics in the later model years. Besides that and option/package reshuffling, are there any other differences of note? Ie. cosmetic changes/drivetrain updates? I can’t really tell just from pictures if there are any. Thanks.

Hey Andrew,

I don't think there's any differences really between the model years on much of anything other than some packages/options as you've said. With that said, the one thing I did notice, is I believe on the 35i models, the 2013s for some reason didn't get paddle shifters? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I don't think any of the connecteddrive telematics stuff even works anymore since I believe it was all sunseted with 3G.

What you looking at potentially getting?

I found the E84 much nicer to drive, hydraulic steering etc, feels more like a "BMW". The F48 (newer X1's) I found drove more like a mini-SUV, less like a car. I understand that was their goal, make it a little taller/bigger, more of a focus on "Space" rather than "Driving"
So from a pure driving perspective, personally yes I much prefer the 2013 E84 over the 2014/2015/2016 models. (I haven't drive models later than that)

I guess I'm not 100% certain when they started making f48, but e84 ran through model year 2015.
