No regrets, really like the car at almost one year of ownership now.
I would say get a 35i - Sport or MSport w/paddle shifters, Harman Kardon stereo with Nav and backup camera. But none of those may appeal to you so hard to say what is "best" options With the seats folded down it can carry quite a lot of stuff.

No regrets at all. Great family car, two kids one still in infant seat. Car holds double stroller and groceries without a problem. Much more enjoyable than wife's old Q5, this at least provides some weekend fun when I can drive it. Gave up my 135i for her to have safe, luxury family car. The 28i is plenty of power for this car, though no doubt the N55 would be a blast. $6k savings and 8sp ZF trans made the decision easy.
Only wish I would have opted with staggered summer tires and swapped dedicated winters from my 1er. Would have afforded a reasonable track car, plus I have reservations about the all-season P7 winter traction. Time will tell. |

None, although I do have conflicting advice to those above me:
I'd say get the 28i Sport-line (not M-sport), as the 18" wheels and stock suspension is just as tight if not tighter than my GTI's suspension, but the sport seats are great. Any harder and the roads around here would not be fun. As for power - the 28i can get you to extra-legal speeds just fine, I just get to enjoy the journey there for longer, and the 8speed transmission is a doll. Needless to say - test drive EVERY iteration you are considering. |

I regret not waiting for the 328d wagon to come out. Didn't have a choice as I needed a car this past Feb when my beater ride '90 525 blew a timing belt on my way to work. Military sales dealer by my base in Germany had a fully loaded 2013 X-Line demo on the lot that I had driven a few months earlier. Rest is history. I have really enjoyed the car. A 35 would have been nice but the BMW turbo 4 is more than sufficient for hauling ass on the Autobahn. Does well at the 'Ring too.

Mostly Base SDrive - No regrets at all, love the car. Might be a little small for a family of 4 going on a camping trip, but how often does that happen?

I got a base 35i which is what I wanted over a M packaged 28i. I don't need leather, iDrive, or an 8 speed and especially ASS. While having the M package would have been nice, the N55 always puts a smile on my face. I'm on the fence about lowering it as I don't need clearance down south and maybe JB4/down pipes down the line.

the xenon lighting package is a must.
stay with hydraulic steering. i would have liked the thicker sport steering wheel but it doesn't come heated (i use my x1 as a snow machine) so it was a bit of a trade off. have fun! |

Its more of an expensive luxury. I replaced the OEM bulbs with Phillips xtreme vision bulbs at a cost of $40. I'll have to replace them more frequently than xenons, but at the end of the day I'm fairly sure I'll come out ahead (particularly if I keep the car past warranty).
But the OEM low beams are really really bad. |

After going for a spin I'm a 650i GC, I regret not finishing my degree to be able to afford that car.
No regrets buying my X1 thus far. |

Slight steering weels vibration in city driving over gruff roads
Struggle to get comfortable on the standard seats Rattle in the rear hatch (more or less solved with lots of sponse forced in there) Comfort access not always working, making the feature annoying. The way the stop/go feature is programmed to work. |

1) Available power and performance control make the legal speed appears way too low ; 2) Great ride and control in ice/snow; 3) Really fun to drive ; However is has few quirks such as: 1) Not really gaz-efficient in city low speed driving ... it weights up to 700 pounds more than a usual car (XDrive and sunroof add weight ; compared to my former Mazda3 sport) which is a drag on gaz consumption, but it doesn't affect the driving as this car is very well balanced at almost 50-50 ; 3) Rear seats are comfortable by space is cramped; 4) Slight body roll in corner at high speed (remember this car has 7.5 inches clearance); 5) In Sport Mode, sometimes the automatic 8-speed changes stick at high gear for no apparent reason. The must-have options: 1)Adaptive Xenon headlights: not only it beams stronger, it covers the corners, ... and the double-O lights are part of BMW's branding. 2) Rear park distance control: the rear window is set slightly to high to see what lying behind the rear wheels. The nice-to-have-options: 1) Panoramic Moonroof: eg. this is truly a large sunroof ; 2) Navigation System : Ridiculously expensive, a full fledged Garmin GPS is 1/5 of this option's price ; 3) 18 inches tires: make the ride stiffer than the 17" but look way better and gives better grip when cornering. 4) Enhanced USB and Bluetooth plus Smartphone Integration if you want to stream music, however if not, the standard USB slot will play MP3. 5) Up here in Canada, XDrive is almost a most... but down south I would have chosen an SDrive (less weight, eg more speed). The options to avoid: 19 inches tires: look awesome that makes the ride stiff and uncomfortable on bumpy roads. Servotronic: A true bimmer gives the full feel of the road, if you really need it, just get a Lexus. |

I had a loaner for a week and drove it on the same roads I do daily with mine. It had 17's and the ride was actually worse! Bouncy and jarring. If there a reason to skip the 19's is because they curb easily. |
