Programming ASS To Last Setting Takes All Day?

I took my car in for annual service (11k miles) today and asked to have the ASS (Auto Start Stop) set to remember the last setting. I had anticipated and been told to expect the car to be ready in 1.5 to 2 hours for the regular service.

The SA told me that the programing would require most of the day to complete as they had to contact BMW for "authorization". She also said that there would be no charge -- but if I wanted the programing reversed, I'd have to pay for that (why would anyone want that?).

I don't think she was trying to dissuade me or make excuses...

Anyway, just a heads up to expect some extra time if you choose to make this adjustment.

My ASS stays turned off on my 2014 s28i M sport.

If I turn ECO Pro on, ASS turns on, too.

I don't like either so they stay set to off.

I did it myself, and it took 15 mins most.
But to understand how to set up my laptop and how to use the software took a lot of my time.

I'm lost here, what exactly is being done and why does it take most of the day to do?

reprogramming the X1 Auto Start/Stop (ASS) to default to the last setting instead of defaulting to ON when the X1 is started. In other words for those that do not like the ASS they can turn it off and the next time (and every other time) they start their X1, the ASS will be OFF

It takes about 4 hours to complete an ECU software change...no matter what the change is. I'm pretty sure the entire program is over-written, not just a small piece of it.

My dealer also had to keep my car for the whole day when they did this. No charge and they gave me a loaner.

Similarly, the ASS on my 2014 x28i remembers to stay off.

Now if I could figure out how to 1) get the car to start off in Eco Pro Mode according to its last setting and 2) have the Eco Pro default to no ASS...

The first vehicle programming session is free, after that you have to pay. I think I'm going to set up an appointment to have my mirrors auto fold. Luckily for me, the '14 MY has ASS to default to last setting from the factory.
