Yes. But maybe it isn't the same problem, who knows? During normal stop and go driving I don't really have a problem. But, if I want to make a quick start and really put my foot into it, there is a noticeable, very annoying delay. My test is that from a stop, I stab the throttle to the floor and immediately let it up. When I do this, I get no response at all. No revving, no movement. The car just starts to idle away from the stop as the pedal returns to 0%. I'm beginning to think there is nothing that can be done, except possibly, installing a tune.
Exactly. You can stab without anything happening. Our dealer says there's no fix and its normal. I really don't know how I missed this on test drives...

Hi all

Do all x1s have the same reset procedure?

Doesn't seen to do anything with my car and I'm an Australian delivered x1 xdrive 20d 2010 model.

I don't hear a sound or anything..

I put the key in and press the start button.

Foot down on gas for 30 secs or more

Press start button again to turn off

Leave for 2 mins

Start the car.. Nothing changes.

What am I doing wrong ?

Is this more relevant to the 28? The X1 28 has much more lag than the 35.

During the 2 minutes you should feel or hear some kind of mechanical sound.

That should tell you the reset is complete.

This is probably a stupid question, but my X1-35 is my first with "Comfort Access" - how would you do Steps 1 and 3 with CA?

Do not put your foot on the brake and hit the ON button. That will power on the car with out starting the engine.

Thanks. Makes sense. I am going to try this after my "break-in" period.

Hey everyone, bumping this up to see if people still think the throttle lag is an issue. I certainly do think it sucks and I want a software update solution. Has anyone had any luck at their dealers? The TBA reset is NOT a solution.

What about getting one of those super sprint things that boost your throttle signal?

Oddly, 95% of the time, mine is just fine. The other 5%, and there is no predicting when this will happen, there is a noticeable lag and 'flat spot' before the engine and transmission get things moving.
It may be worse when the engine isn't fully warmed up (with no gauge it's tough to tell when things are fully warm...).
I tried the procedure, with no mechanical noise. I may try it again when time permits.
Concur that putting it in 'SD' lessens or eliminates the problem; when I'm running in really cutthroat traffic, I'll use SD.

It is 100% of the time for some of us (when getting going from a stop). Yesterday I was at a light and repeatedly tapped the accelerator half way down/release over and over; the only response was the normal auto tranny slow roll forward. No rev, nothing. You can dance on the accelerator without moving the car. Pretty ridiculous.

That is ridiculous! I feel bad for those that have this problem and thankful I do not.

Mine's done this since new. Now, I've adjusted my driving style to include dropping the first 1/2 inch of pedal fast, then accelerating normally from there. I'll try the reset thing, FWIW. If you have good feel for the pedal, it becomes second nature.

I just found this thread (and others like it on various BMW and Audi forums) and the reset as described here definitely breathed new life into my 2014 X1 35i M-sport. We bought the car for my wife last year, used with low miles, and I'm guessing the prior owner had driven the thing conservatively and it learned to drive that way (or rather, UN-learned to drive the proper way, proper meaning fast). As described by others posting on this topic, it took an annoying while (half a second?) to get ANY response out of the car when pushing down aggressively on the gas. So merging from a stopped lane of traffic into a moving lane was a complex timing issue - 1) stomp on gas when car I wanted to merge behind was approaching in rear view, 2) get delayed throttle response as car was passing, 3) stay on gas and start moving into the space between that car and the one coming up behind it, 4) hope to hell I timed it right... etc. Super annoying!
When my wife moved on to a bigger vehicle to accommodate our growing kids, I had to decide whether to keep the bimmer or sell it and keep my 2002 WRX (tuned and fun to drive, but getting old and rattly). I'd previously described the situation in detail to the mechanic at our local BMW dealer and he blew it off as "turbo lag" despite my telling him repeatedly that I was certain it was more than that. I'm pretty sure he's truly clueless about this issue, which is concerning on multiple levels. I went so far as to order a Dinan stage 2 ECU flash kit to see if it would help, but before it shipped I chanced upon the TBA reset issue online and having tried it, I turned right around and canceled the Dinan order.
I used the 30-60 sec gas pedal depression technique described in this post (others have recommended stepping on the gas for as little as 5 or 10 seconds to accomplish the reset). I didn't hear any metallic clicking noise, but after the reset the car reacts right away when the gas pedal is depressed. There is still turbo lag, but now it's quite tolerable. I'm definitely keeping the bimmer as my daily driver. For now I'm being careful to maintain an aggressive driving style but if circumstances dictate that I tone it down for long enough for the car to re-learn a sluggish throttle response, I'll just invest another 3 minutes in a re-refresh.

Yes, this works. 325i 2005. Had to replace the battery after the car was stored for about 6 months. It would start just fine, and idle, but any pressure on the gas pedal and it would start to choke out like it was going to stall. I did the steps mentioned here and it started right up and drove perfectly.

Thanks OP for posting that!

2015 X1 35i Worked like a charm !!!

Thought I needed an aftermarket tuning kit, but nope. This and a little octane booster made a big difference. Fun car. Thanks !

Funny, the procedure loukas described at the top of the thread is exactly the same as a step to bleed coolant. Holding the pedal to the ground (with engine off and ignition on) will run the water pump for about 12 minutes to circulate new coolant. Maybe that's the "mechanical noise" people are hearing?

This is a report back.. Yes, it works. Not perfect in full auto mode, like I drive. It starts in 2nd gear from a stop, but there's much less lag than before. Stuff like this makes forums great.

Same here.

I tried it twice, and it doesn't seem to make one ounce of difference on a 2014 x1 35i.

Similar but not exactly the same, heater and fan on high for coolant bleed.
