Hey guys,

below is my response/advice to above:

1/this is plug and play and no need for decoding. ( i hate decoding bec i'm not an IT guy)
since just plug and play, so i dont think any regional car versions concerned.
2/which brand is better? no guarantee, i am just user not manufacturer,
but it needs to be specific for X1 (bec other cars jack length size might be different)
which just show what i order for you guys.
2/Taobao not shipping to US?? really...??
3/i just used for 2 weeks so far quality is ok, and i will update whether it can be last for one year later on :P (but at least i keep original bmw jack parts for safety)

FYI tks

If I decide to do this I'll ship it to friends in Korea and pick it up next time I visit. I'd really like to see good, detailed pictures of the actual install. Chinese aftermarket parts don't have the best reputation (sometimes deserved).

*i will try to take some pics for u later when i am free, recently a bit busy for changing battery (bigger power) for my son's remote car,

*also just finish DIY for the X1 trunk LED, DIY cost less than US$3...
(take the trunk light house and unplug the wire, open the light house and connect wire for LED light bulb +/-ve, much brighter now)

Thanks for the additional clarification and advice! Can you please tell us which of the following 3 kits are specific to the X1, and which of these 3 kits are just the "universal" kits that might not work as well (wrong jack size, etc.)? Or are they all specific to X1?

from your post

no 1 link: you have to select X1 button, bec 3 buttons there & they are supplying also 5 n 3 series, (jack is different)
no 2 link: just selling X1
no 3 link: just selling x1 (which i bought from this link)

frankly i believe all above 3 traders might be getting just same manufacturer's product...,
not 3 different manufacturers, bec Taobao just like ebay, 90% above just traders.

FYI thx

That is so cool but I think they should have options to close the door remotely rather than touch on the button.

guys, you can use your bmw remote key to open and close it; thats the remote.
and report you guys that after almost half year using, its normal and just closing a bit strong force that i feel.

if the manufacturer can improve the force down, its perfect.
(so now i add some black plastic tube - originally for door sill anti-noise plastic ; as cusion for the gate to reduce the force )

enjoy!

Not to sound like a prick but that question was already answered in the post above yours:

Something I haven't been able to find out yet. Can you still close the gate with your hand or is it strictly using the mechanism after the installation?

some people also add an original BMW gate button under the driver seat nearby the door side of the foot area.

i have bought one in China, (i believe real parts from BMW China) but still i have no time to install it, bec my wife is warning me not spending too much time for the "toys"; also HK weather is still hot; which is a tough job to install car parts with hot moisture and mosquito

Thank you!
I just picked one up, when it comes in I'll take some detailed photos of the install and post it on here.

Did you have any issues getting it shipped to North America? If you wouldn't mind, could you post the link you bought it from?

I'd love to here more about installing this! I've always found it a strange oversight on BMW's part not to have a power lift gate on the X1. Also doesn't help that my mom is very short and has trouble reaching it when I visit her

If this works out and is as easy as Louis has made it seem, I'll definitely be looking to order a kit myself!

I used engtaobao.com which is kind of like a broker. They received it from the seller and now I'm waiting for them to ship it (ended up being $120 USD for the shipping).

If you're in no rush then hold off until I get it, I'll post instructions and review as soon as I get it.

Power Tailgate Kit Unboxing

Hi All,

Just wanted to say that I've finally received the power tailgate kit and got it out of the box. First off I just want to say that I am very impressed with the quality of the kit - the packaging is high quality, there are no flimsy pieces (with exception of the included open/close button) and the tools included are nice and sharp. The instructions are all in Chinese (Mandarin?), naturally, but the diagrams seem to be very detailed and I'm hoping will be enough without needing translations.

Haven't had a chance to connect it all up and test it to make sure the mechanism works - will do that later today. And then installation will probably take place this weekend.

Enjoy the pics so far.
