Given your needs, I say Leatherette. It wears like IRON.

I believe the OP already placed order for Oyster Leather.

I have... I'll report back in a few months on whether or not it proves to be a mistake! Hoping that a seat protector underneath the car seat will keep the leather from getting too indented/destroyed.

We are expecting our 1st in June. Apparently, many of the seat protectors on the market damage leather according to the reviews on Amazon. I've also read they are not considered safe by certified car seat installers.

Do you already have a car seat or one in mind? Are you trying to put it in the middle or outboard?

I'd like to add my two cents here.

I went with the black leatherette mostly to keep the cost of the car down. But what I will say is that the quality of the leather in this car is pretty disappointing. The other car in our family is a GM and it is very comparable to that. I was expecting more. Perhaps its because I used to spend time in my father's 7-series and my last car, an 08 m3. The leather in those two cars is of a higher quality. Why spend money on cheap leather anyway. I'd do it only for smell.

BMW is German, they believe in the class system. Buy a 7er, get nice leather, buy an entry level model, get leather that's waxed within a millimeter of being fake. M cars tend to get a mild amount of respect, my M Coupe had Nappa leather, the same as the 7er, but our 1er and X1 have really cheap, heavily waxed, closed pore leather.

Reasons - when you don't like the feel of the vinyl seats and/or when you want the lumbar that only comes with leather and/or when you are getting the Premium Pkg for a variety of reasons and/or when you want a color that only is available in leather. I opted for leather for several of those

While the leather may cheap, it's durable and still superior in feel to the vinyl. Worth it to some...not to others. BMW is so protective of it's premium status in the US, they won't offer cloth here. The vinyl these days is so much better than what they used in the 90s though!

I was going to get leather without a second thought until I learned that neither were porous. The only real drawback, aside from the individual preferences of you guys above, was getting swamp ass on log trips.

That my be an issue for both, or none. We will see!

Not a problem on the leather. This was a problem on the vinyl for me in a loaner. For me, it was swamp back.

Interior cleaning

I've got the black nevada leather, tinted windows, sun shade, and sun roof. I've been concerned with keeping the seats and dash clean. I'll be picking up those wipes, but I'm curious where do you keep them in the car. Is the dash cover leather or leatherette?

Because of a bad back and two bad knees, I have to take the car to a car wash. They use some kind of spray on the interior, and i'm curious if any of the sprays are harmful?

The dash is vinyl. Maguires also makes quick detailor interior wipes for the non-leather parts. At my car wash they only vacuum the leather and only clean with leather cleaner for an extra charge. I think they wipe down the dash with a damp cloth. I go to a car wash/detaier that specializes in luxury cars. I stay away from the low end places that steal all of your quarters.

No, I don't go to the diy washes. The one I use is similar to yours. I'll ask them when I go in next week. Thanks for the advice.

I meant that the workers at some places steal stuff out of the cars.

I'm enjoying my X1, and the way it looks. I've just about learned how all of the media functions work, the wiper controls still cause thought - mostly because we haven't had much rain, but I have one regret. Mine did not come with the xenon lighting.

Has anyone had the dealer replace the standard lighting with the xenon lights, and what was the cost?
