Car Ramps
What are you guys all using for car ramps on your X1?
I had a set of metal ones and they have gone missing. The set I still have have too much of a pitch for the front end, and I need a 2x8 wood section to bridge the gap. There are a lot of sets out there, and I figured someone must have a "low profile" ish set that I can use on the X1 and not scrape the front bumper. I think the cheap Rhino Ramps will work, but figured I would ask here. |

Yes, I have a set of Rhino Ramps which seem to work fine, no profile doesn't scrape. It was sufficient to allow to reach the oil drain plug. |

I got a set of Race Ramps and they work pretty well. Since they are solid vs. convoluted plastic, I feel like there is less risk of sudden, unforseen catastrophic failure with these units.

The X1 ground clearance is pretty good. Therefore I don't need to raise the car to do oil changes. For other underbody work, I use QuickJack SLX5000.
But I do have a pair of Rhino Ramps plus 4 jack-stands as backup. |

I do have to raise the car for an oil change, I really need an extra inch or two. Quote:
Which set of race ramps? The 3" or the 7"? I'm liking the notes about Rhino Ramps. They are cheap, and clears the X1. I have a good jack, and jack stands, I just have heavy duty metal ramps that the approach angle is too steep on. |

I've not used it for transmission removal. I think you'd need another jack to support dropping the tranny unit. I've used it for many exhaust work and of course fluid changes. QJ is sturdy. I feel it is safer than than jack stands during lifting. Lifting all 4 corners at once is a simple process. The entire vehicle goes up or down together as opposed to multiple small adjustments via a jack and jackstands. YMMV. |
