Which stereo system?
I recently purchased a used 2013 X1 x28i. Using various VIN decoder sites I am able to get just about all of the info on it, in terms of content, that I want. It is very will appointed with just about everything. It doesn not appear to have satellite radio which I find odd. It does have I-Drive and Navigation. The sound is very good for the level of car it is.
Is there anyway I can tell which stereo is installed? It says nothing on the head unit. Previous BMW's have had something like "professional" on the HU. I see speakers in the door panels, tweeters in the window corners and in has subwoofers under the from seats. Can anyone tell me how to identify which model this car has? Can anyone tell me how to add satellite radio? I am listening to satellite stations and Apple Music through the USB connection to my iPhone currently. Sounds good but is occasionally glitchy. Thanks for any info or direction. |

I don't believe there are HK markings.
I see only Bass/Treble in menu. There is something in the back on the left behind a cover. I will take a better look at it and respond. Might be amp or sat module prep. Will look. Thanks. |

No HK on the tweeters.
Wife took the X1 today so I can't check the back until later. It is plenty loud and bass-y. So not HK, what were the other options? I have had the professional unit in the past and it was not nearly as good s the one in the X1. |

If you do not have Harman Kardon label on the tweeters then you have the professional Sound System. See picture of my car attached.
I figured that out when you posted your VIN details as that is all the time listed. Harman kardon also has middle range adjustment and a big amplifier in the trunk under the second floor. |

The X1 sound system is absolutely brilliant.
I also have a 2021 X4 and a 2021 M340i and none comes close to the X1 sound system. The layout of the speakers, dimensions of the car and interior arrangement makes this car one of the best sound system I have heard. Actually, the new M340 doesn't even come close to this guy; is that good. The Professional is very good but the HK sound system goes to a totally different level. Harman Kardon system has: - Treble, Bass and Middle range levels - It has an Equalizer which is brilliant - It has Logic 7 Surround Sound with a three dimensional sound experience. I have watched few time DVDs in this car and it is exceptional. - it has a middle center speaker - it has DSP (Digital Signal Processor) that calculates continuously the sound throughout the vehicle for an optimum sound from each seat - it has an outout of 340 watts - 13 loudspeakers: two integrated subwoofers, four metal matrix tweeters, seven metal matrix mid-range speakers - uses integrated midrange EDPL (electro dynamic planar loudspeaker) This sound system was a lot of work and made for these cars in an unique way providing one of the most amazing spatial sound experience. |

Thank you for the answer. In my previous X5 it was an HK system with the center channel in the dash and 12 others. Surpsingly, the lower end system in the X1 sounds considerably better than the X5 HK. I am happy with it. BTW, I read your excellent Timing Chain posts. Mine is going in to get checked Wednesday. |

I think it's the combination of cabin tuning and quality system. It sounds great without being overbearing. I've driven in many cars with named brand system and they were not as good as the X1's.
