New Key Fob?
Other then going to the dealer and get held up at gunpoint, are there any other options to get a duplicate key fob? I have one just looking for a new one. Even if the key is not laser cut.

Yeah, each key has a unique ID that the car needs to know about so it must be sync'd with the car:
The dealer can do the coding or find someone locally, like and indy shop. There are few people who will do coding remotely. They send you the cable and then they can remotely peek under the hood to do the coding. |

Yeah I would tell the shop to FOD for that much. Find an indy shop and ask them. Tell them you have a new BMW key that needs to be sync'd and how much they charge to do the coding. Or as I say poke around the site as there are folks that do coding. One can do it themselves as they just need the correct cable and software. And for the later they will also do other coding for you as well. Like turn off the annoying warning when starting the engine.

From my cousin who works at an indy shop:
Any shop that has BMW ista can activate the comfort Access on key. If the shop has autologic may be able but not sure. |

Thanks, I have not been able to find any indy shops close to me that can do this. Looks like I'm going to be forced to go to the dealer.

Poke around some more, there are some threads of individuals who can do it. They send you the cable, which you hook up, then via remote access they do the coding. something like $100 bucks plus $50 deposit on the cable (the cost of it). Or do it your self.
