What Tires is everyone running these days?

I ditched the factory run flats around 35k miles and ended up getting a spare, so right off the bat I'm not interested in RFT's.

I chose unwisely and got a budget branded tire last time around and they have been nothing but a nuisance. Vercelli Tires may have marketing and social media clout, but their tires are pure trash. They never balanced well (regular and road force) and always shook.

I've got stock factory wheels, and 225/45/R18. There weren't a lot of black friday sales but I need new tires. I put Goodyear Assurance Maxlife Tires on the girlfriends jeep 2 years ago, and they've got over 40k miles on they are at approx half life. I don't drive the X1 35i Hard, but I'll go into a corner faster than the others cars on the road.

And I do need something all-seasonish, as I will have to drive in the snow a couple times a year.

Just wanted to poll the group and see what everyone else liked and or disliked when it came to tires, and WHY!?

I went to Michelin PS4S in a lower profile of 255/35r18 and 225/40r18. They are very good, but not more traction that the Pirelli P7 Summers. I also think very low profile don't flex right for good traction. Even F1 tires have some sidewall to them.

Also, they are rated good in wet, but that doesn't mean hard rain.

Next time I Plan to get the Michelin AS 4 in the staggered sizes 2014 X1 s28i came with....255/40r18 and 225/45r18.

If you're looking for an all-weather tire, I like the Michelin Defender 2s a lot. Replaced OEM run flats with 225/50R17's on my AWD X1, out the door cost including tax and installation was $700 last year at Costco.

They have fantastic grip in snow and heavy rain, they run quiet and smooth, and have a very long life (Michelin claims 80,000 miles). Sure they're not as sexy and sport oriented as a PS4S, but if it's performance you're chasing, sorry to break it to you but the X1 isn't the best car for that.

Unless you have cash to burn on a second set of tires for a summer-winter setup, I'd really recommend just getting a high-end all-season tire. Good tires truly are the easiest and most cost-effective performance upgrade you can do, plus you never have to switch them out or deal with driving on summer tires in wet conditions.

I can't do a summer tire. New England and dictates I need all season tires. And the X1 is a daily, I'm not trying to out corner camaros or corvettes, lol.

I'm not really interested in a second set of tires and wheels. If I found a cheap set, I would consider it, but I don't drive enough in the snow to make that worth while.

Thanks for the Defender 2 suggestion. I'll look into those.

Toyo Proxes Sport A/S. Works good. Quite a durable tire with good wear.

I switch to Continental Wintercontact SI Plus during winter. These tires grip grip grip while others slip slip slip.

I'm running Michelin Pilot sport 4S for most of the year, and Blizzak WS90's for a few winter months (Dec-Feb). Will probably switch back to a dedicated summer tire once the 4S's wear out.
