2013 BMW x1 not starting after sitting

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me out

My friend has a 2013 BMW X1 that has been sitting since last march. He ran into some insurance issues and had just had twins so couldn't take proper care of it. He told me if I can get it started he would sell it to me since it isn't really the family car that he needs right now.

I got to it last week and it's parked next to a mechanic. I asked the mechanics to take a look. The lights turn on but the engine doesn't crank. I read the pinned post re: the many issues relating to starting so here's the most descriptive I can be. They tried it with a fresh battery and it did the same. The mechanics said to check out if BMW's have some kind of a security feature that would make it not crank if it's been sitting for a while. They didn't seem very helpful in getting me going. Like I said the lights turn on and there is a transmission message sometimes and a chassis message other times, but again, no crank. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. The car was running fine when he parked it and fluids all seem to be ok as per the mechanics.

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions!
