What's next?

Now that BMS got slapped by CARB in California, It pisses me off how dumb the rules are here.. now I can't mod the X1! I could find a back door tho... Anywho, I've been thinking about taking advantage of the M5 lease deals or putting some $ down for a M4.

Anyone else thought of upgrading?

Why can't you mod? Do you actually live in California?

I can see the exhaust being difficult to overcome but the intercooler too??? I'd think the intercooler will pass.
And can't the JB4 be removed prior to inspection?
Sadly, that's the price you pay for living in an uber-liberal state.

"we live in"?? I don't live there. Last time I was near LA, it seemed pretty polluted to me. I guess "caring" is a regional thing.
I don't know though...a quick check of the most polluted cities in the USA list the top 5 cities for 3 different categories...
OZONE-
YEARLY PARTICLE POLLUTION-
SHORT-TERM PARTICLE POLLUTION-
The top 5 worst cities are all in CA for each category
It seems to me that whatever they're doing, it ain't working.

It's seems obvious to any reasonable person that the reason those cities are polluted is because they are not doing enough to cut down on pollution.

If your kid failed math class and he claimed that he studied for 5 minutes, would you then tell him to stop studying because it obviously did not work? Or would you tell him that he did not study enough and he should study more?

It does not take a genius to figure out that the solution to reducing pollution is to not pollute. If the pollution reduction has not worked, it's because there has not been enough pollution reduction. The solution is to increase the pollution regulations, not eliminate them. If you eliminate the regulations then you will end up like the cities in China where the sky is yellow and pink and people have to wear breathing masks when they go outside.

I think there are mountains around those cities blocking in the pollution. That is why they have stricter laws. Plus everyone LA likes to drive everywhere. The stricter laws are a response to the high pollution numbers...it isn't causing the high pollution.

Less polution is good. I dont' have any problem with laws preventing you from making your vehicle more smog producing.

I spent a couple of weeks in Iceland a year and a half ago and when I got back you could really tell how much more polluted the air is here. It was actually hard to breath. No wonder they have the highest life expectancy for males in the world and ours keeps dropping down the list.

If you live on this planet, you certainly do live "there". We ALL live downstream from environmental events, whether caused by nature or by man. Wow, people don't read posts before they respond.

Yet over 50% of the vehicles sold in the US are trucks and a lot of those are V8's. Stop selling trucks and GM is dead if they aren't already due to recalls. See how much profit Ford makes without selling 700,000 F series trucks each year. Last I checked Tesla cars run pretty much on electricity produced by coal or natural gas.

Yes, electric cars do run on electricity which is in most cases produced by carbon based fuels. However, electric motors are much more efficient than gasoline motors. So the amount of carbon based fuels burned to produce the amount of electricity needed to move the electric car a mile is much lower than for a gasoline car.

Also, a growing amount of our electricity is produced from solar, wind and hydro power. In California almost 30% of electricity is now produced by these renewable sources.

Wrong...I don't live in China either. Strange comment coming from someone living in the #1 cleanest city(pollution wise) in the US. Been to Asheville many times and it's really nice there...great for my asthma. Nice McDonald's too!

For the $10 billion dollars the US threw away on GM the gov't could have purchased 250,000 electric cars to give away. Additionally GM pays no taxes, yes no taxes. Gov't wants to cut pollution but loans $60 billion to a company that can only stay in business by selling V8 trucks and SUV's so stick the pollution story where the sun doesn't shine because its BS.

Clearly this thread has been hijacked by a bunch of dimwits that don't understand that environmental concerns and climate change are happening all over our small village of a planet we call Earth. I'll be the first to admit that this thread is WAY off topic, but I will NOT bury my head in the sand about our dire environmental situation. If anyone believes just because they don't live in China or LA that they are not affected by any of our careless attitudes - check again! We are ALL going to suffer the consequences.

Well, you were just as much a part of the threadjacking as anyone else. Or were you just referring to the other "dimwits"...the ones that didn't share your specific opinion(s) or level of concern for the environment?
It's sad that one must resort to name-calling when their way of thinking is not understood, shared, or accepted by ALL.

Do you realize it's impossible to idle a car at redline?
