Anyone ok with standard seats?

The seats are the last thing I'm trying to figure out on my X1. I've read all the threads on the topic, and there seem to be a fair number of complaints about the non-sport seats. They seem fine to me, but it's hard to tell during a short test drive.

I'm trying to figure out whether the people complaining are in a minority, or a majority. I've been planning to go with the standard seats, plus lumbar support.

So -- for those of you with non-sport seats, are you perfectly happy with them? Or do you wish you'd gone with the sport seats?

I've got standard seats with lumbar - I think they are fine.

We've had non sport seats in our X1 and our previous 135i and I actually prefer them for our intended purpose for the car. If my wife tracked get car or we didn't take longer trips, I might prefer the sport seats, but with lumbar control, the standard seats work better for my 5'3" wife and still work fine for my 6'2" self.

Sure, around town, they're not as good as my old M Coupe seats, but neither are the sport seats. If you're tall, the adjustable thigh support is really nice, but if you're short, the sport seats are a little long.

I have standard seats and zero complaints for myself or husband of 6'4! Even on long drives, extremely comfortable!

Garage List
I'm 6'4" and the standard seats are good for the type of vehicle it is. They can't be compared to the seats in my M Coupe, but they are comfy and have a more thigh-support than the standard seats of rival manufacturers. I actually sit more upright in this vehicle than any other and am still comfortable.

I've got the standards (swayed by the terra leather which isn't available on sport seats) and they've proven quite comfortable during my 1-2 hour one-way commutes. Typically firm German thrones with just enough bolstering to hold me in place during the offramps, too. No way they're as good as the sports, but they'll do.

I wish I could get sports seat on the driver's side and not on the passenger side. The side bolsters for both back and thighs make the seats harder to get in and out of for elderly and infirm people. But when it's just me driving, I really want the extra side support and not having my thighs dangling half off the seat.

There perfectly fine to me. Done a couple of long trips and there pretty comfy. I just wish the side bolsters were a bit bigger. Otherwise there fine.

Sport seats are great but standard seats are fine. I have no complaints about our standard seats and sometimes it's nice to ride in a normal seat after shoe-horning myself in and out of my M3.

I drove a loaner X1 for a day, with standard seats.
I disliked them, no support in corners and I really missed the tilt adjustments. The 1M has the same sport seats by the way.
(Okay, perhaps when you have an American sized thorax, you'll get enough support from them.)

There are a few of us Americans that aren't morbidly obese; we just use our superior sphincter clenching techniques to hold us in place in our non-sport seats.

Thanks for all the responses. From other message threads I was getting the impression that everyone hated the standard seats... it's reassuring to know that that's not the case.

True. Only 35.7% of US adults are obese according to the CDC, and only around 40% on top of that are merely fat.
It's sad, but I think many US buyers should consider the standard seats because they or their passengers won't fit comfortably between the bolsters in the sports seats, even at the widest setting.

I remember watching an obese man try to get in an E46 M3 at a dealership once. That did not end well.

Seat comfort is so subjective, lumbar can bother one persons back, flat seat another, what is good for someone else may not be good for you so my .02 is try the options for yourself if you can. I personally always am most comfortable in the more bolstered sport seats of any car make

My last 2 (non-BMW) cars had sport seats. When I test drove I did NOT like the non sport seats and ordered the sport line just so I can get the sport seats. My car isn't here for another week but I'm already glad I ordered them.

Having said that, I think if I wasn't used to the sport seats already I probably wouldn't miss them. ? As others have said seat comfort is very subjective. It's hard to make recommendations for other people. Just make sure you test out both options before ordering/purchasing!
