Please, let us get some of topic

I love it because it is a 16v. SAAB was one of the first manufactors with the 16v engine. But of course i love the BMW 2002 turbo most of all. I have a friend who own a 2002 turbo original... What a wonderfoul car...

It'll be interesting to see if the X1 shows up at the NAIAS in Motown next week.
If so, it's a pretty good indication that the X1 will come here. If not, then we're likely gonna be SOL

thanks for that ,makes sense.I was begining to think this was a thread about saabs,You know a saab story

Not all Saabs are "Saab stories".
Before the 2010 Subaru Forester, my wife had a 2005 Saab 9-2X - but it was really a Saabaru as it was built by Subaru.
We loved that little buggy - perfect size and lots of fun to drive.

Aaaah. My neighbour a few years ago had one. She bought it new but hardly drove it, only had 10k miles on or so. I tried to buy it off her many times but she ended up giving it to her grandson who wrote it off a year later Name: sad0116.gif

This makes no sense, the USD:EUR is about as strong as it's been at any point since early 2007 so they're getting better value then at any time since the X1 was developed, why would they cancel the US introduction now?

Personally I'm more disappointed that it looks like probably no 20d at launch so I've been searching around for a 4WD with decent MPG. The little Nissan Juke with it's TC'd 1.6L engine looks promising at 28MPG combined. While that's not nearly the 38 that people are seeing with the 20d it's better than anything else in the US at the moment =(

I have been trying to find an article I read a few weeks ago that mentioned that the launch engine for the X1 in NA is the 2.8i. For the life of me I cannot dig it up again, sorry. Would be a pity if the 2.0d does not make it across the pond, its an amazing engine. Another thing of interest is that my dealer says that BMW are surprised by the demand for the X1 in Europe and lead times are increasing. I just wonder if they can ramp up enough to supply the American market? Maybe the move to India will improve things.

Has anyone contacted BMW USA and asked them directly?

Someone also spotted an X1 very recently, not even 2 weeks ago, in NC and posted it in the X3 forum thinking it was an X3. Not sure if it means anything to see an X1 driving around on US soil or not, but hopefully it's a good sign for those who are hoping to see the X1 come to the US.

I have been told that the US debut for the X1 will happen in April at the New York Autoshow, but BMW North America will debut the car officially in the Spring so that all information is available before the NYIAS debut.

X1 will probably be the headliner for BMW @ New York as the Shanghai autoshow is almost simultaneous.

Now that it's confirmed, the engine lineup is next. Care to share any info on the Xdrive 35i I saw testing in California. 300hp X1? Although I think the diesel(20d or 23d) is a much better choice(for both marketing & sales) than a N55 X1.

Sorry the car will debut in Montreal Autoshow Canada first and then the US.
I do not know anything about whether the US are getting an xDrive35i?
Because we do not get such a model in Europe as BMW see the X1 positioned below the X3 not directly at it.

No Diesel plans announced yet either, At a guess. The top model in the US will possibly be the same as in Europe - xDrive28i.

If the Euro had anything to do with it then why do we get Mini's in the US, all made in England and Austria. The only thing the Euro has to do with it will be the final pricing which will probably be about $5K less than the X3.

From a commercial and marketing standpoint, I don't see the rationale behind a US-market specific big engine (and not that bigger than the 28i) on a model that has yet to prove itself on said market.

However should the X1 sell like hot dogs at a town fair, and there is strong customer demand for a big mill, sure, why not.

But I'm not surprised at a presentation at the Montreal Auto Show, as I guess it underscores the X1 introduction in the most European of Canadian cities..

The X1 photos in that link are almost certainly that of the 2.8i engined car. I have tried enlarging the pics and I can just about make it out. Could be wrong although the twin tailpipes confirms my suspicion.

I doubt whether the launch car will be the 3.5i, it will be too niche and expensive.

I have no doubt that the X1 3.5i will come later though, most likely only in M form.
