Cool 2012 NYIAS: Blue X1 M Sport (and vs. X3)

2012 NYIAS: Blue X1 M Sport (and vs. X3)

COMMENTS

The 2013 BMW X1 has been announced for the US market and is making its US premiere at the 2012 NYIAS currently underway. On display is this X1 xDrive35i with M Sport package.

The X1 arrives in dealerships in the Fall in three models:
  • sDrive28i (240hp, RWD, starts at $31,545)
  • xDrive28i (240hp, AWD, starts at $33,245)
  • xDrive35i (300hp, AWD, starts at $39,345)
The 28i models receive an 8 speed automatic transmission and the xDrive35i uses the older 6 speed auto transmission.

The M Sport Package (seen below) will be available at launch for the US X1 models. And unlike the other X models, European delivery for the X1 will be available (because it's produced in BMW's Leipzig plant)!

And if you're interested in ordering an X1, look out for the X1 ordering guide which will come mid-May.

See our NYIAS interview covering the X1 @ http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=672430

Hmmm...now that looks like a good commuter car. Very utilitarian.

Is it possible to get a stripper X1 with just the M-sport package? Or does BMW make you get some other packages along with M-sport?

Won't know exact US packaging/optioning until mid-May when the ordering guides are released.

MPG figures not yet available. No one is willing to confirm a potential X1 M Performance model yet (or if at all).

No 8AT for the 35i? Awww. Still, the 6 is a good one.

Blue MSport X128xi (see what I did there??) would be a sweet daily driver with practicality for the bike, dog, and trips to Home Depot.

the issue with X1 (in Europe at least) is the price.
For similar money you can buy 3 series xdrive touring, a car that's more premium in feel and lacks only in ground clearance compared to X1, but makes up in looks.

i don't know. the LCI Msport certainly is a big improvement, but given the ugliness of the original that's not exactly a feat to be proud of.

Pretty neat looking little ride. My wife has an X3 and it's almost too small for our family of 3 when we go anywhere with some luggage and baby gear, so I just couldn't see the X1 making sense for us. Any idea on the interior room compared to a 3 series touring?

It's curious that the 225M wheels are making a comeback. Did BMW fix their cracking issue?

If so, can I trade out mine for the new version before they break? pretty please?

So weird how different pricing is around the world. In the US the X1 is only a couple hundred more than the 128i. It is almost the cheapest BMW sold here. The outgoing 3-series wagon is about $6k more.

If it was an M35i xdrive, wouldn't that be a M performance model, not an M-Sport, or would that be a 35iM xdrive?

Thats correct but the M is coming first on the badge like the M550d xdrive touring and X5 M50d so it would be X1 M35i xdrive. i was just stating i'm hoping they come out with one as its been rumored to be the first m performance model in the US.

A problem with the newest BMW designs

Maybe is only me... but lately we need to learn to like the new BMW designs, when they first come out (OTHER THEN THE 5 SERIES OF COURSE) I say "Well, I don't know about that dashboard "X3", what about new front grill "new 3 series", what about this car that does not know what it is "X1"... and the list goes on and on... eventually you say to yourself, there is nothing that I can change about the design, I just know that car will drive really well and well you have to make that new car grows on you till you are ready to buy it and have lots of fun driving it.

Personally, I think both cars, X1 and X3 were designed for the feminine buyers and the 3, 5 and X5 series has the man looks.

That is my impression, that is all.

FYI, I wish the X3 was more man style so I could have one in my garage.
