best mini spare set up ? also anyone run the mini spare oh thier M sport with 19's ?
the diameter is not that much difference, at worst case you have to turn the traction control off ?
also looking for the best storage set up. was thinking about removing the tray over the battery and putting the spare under the floor, realizing it will stick up a few inches. |

I thought about it for a while and even priced out some doughnuts.
Ended up with a plug kit and compressor. |

Here is my take on spares ... Get a real one not a mini.
The two times we have had a flat has been over a weekend when it was not possible to get a replacement tire. In both cases the tire could not be repaired. With a real spare we could drive 500+ miles home. Yeah a full sized spare is a PITA in that it takes up room in the back but we only toss it in when on trips. you can easily drive home on a mini spare.
we got recently stranded on a Sunday evening when everything was closed and miles from civilization with RFT and a plug kit, the plugs just dont work on a shredded tire. also had a friend hit some huge bolt, too big to plug. the RFT are ok for around town but not long trips looking at the BZ and the bavarian spares. BZ says not tested on the m sport with 19's |

One can drive home but at 50 mph. Which when one is 500 miles from home it is probably best to pack a couple of picnics baskets cause it is going to be a long drive. Which why I recommend a full sized spare. I prefer to pack only one picnic basket for the drive.

I had the same concern when I decided to go with the Continental DWS06 on my 35i M sport. I needed a good all season tire and had no interest in swapping out a winter to summer tire setup like I did with my ZHP for years. I keep an emergency slime tire sealant inflation kit in the back along with a second 12 volt compressor. This along with my AAA membership is piece of mind enough.

Years ago car and driver did a test in a rwd and fwd car with mini spare. I recall the rwd car was a vette. They did all the instrumented testing including high speeds braking etc. there was surprisingly very little distance and the donuts held up well. I recall the worst issue was like ccw skid pad with the donut on the outside front.
I think the 50 mph is there due to the attornies Anyways I ended up with the alloy wheel donut from bav auto. |
