My New X1 35i

Last week I took delivery of this 2014 Lemans blue X1 35i. Sadly it isn't a CPO car but I am under factory warranty until late November. The car has 29,000 miles on it. I decided to pick this one up over all the other options because it is the twin of my 335i. This guy had a sticker price of $50,000 new and is loaded with options. I plan to, over the next few months, move most of my parts from the 335i over to the X1 and sell the coupe. I will see if I can add an interior shot of the 335i when I get home this evening.

Beautiful X1! I can't wait to see when you move all your mods to it. It is gonna be a beast for sure!

BTW, are you gonna get an after market intake for your car? I don't see any in your 335i mod list.

Thank you. Yeah I have the BMS Intake currently, I guess I missed that mod in the signature. It will get moved over towards the end. MHD is getting close to releasing their tune for our DME so I'll be going that route. I'm also considering Fuel-IT direct port meth injection. I will be taking it to the strip Saturday morning to get my stock track baseline. Then I will schedule a time for a base line dyno session before the parts get moved over.

I run drag radials in the summer for traction. I picked up a pair of 17 inch OEM wheels to run in the rear. Without the radials 1st and 2nd gear were both pretty useless.

Thank you guys. I am taking the X1 to the strip this evening to get a stock vehicle baseline before I start adding mods. I will post up my best time later this evening. If I get into the 13's at all I will be happy.

So I was able to get the X1 out on to the track to get a stock base line time. I know I can just look figures up online for what they run stock but I would rather have information on my car, at my local track, with me driving. I was pretty happy that I wasn't in the 14's at all. I got three runs in and all of them were 13.9 @ 99mph.

My buddy took his 2008 WRX STI to the track for the first time. He just had the engine rebuilt with forged internals. He was running 25 psi on pump with his upgraded turbo. Dynoed at 386whp and ran a best of 12.1 @ 114mph.

Seems good to me. I looked up the stats, and it seems like 13.8 is the only number listed (from Car and Driver). Oddly, almost all of the 1/4 mi stats listed are 28i xDrives, with no figures for the 28i sDrive (which I suspect might be quicker just due to weight but dunno).

s28i seems to get 14.6 secs.
x28i seems to be 0.1 sec slower at 14.7 secs.
x35i is 13.8 secs.

You can pay to have it CPO if you want at the dealer anytime before the original warranty expires

Interesting... I didn't know that. I'll talk with the dealership and see what they say.

There are many options with varying costs. You can go warranty only up to 75 or 100, then maintenance too. Value of adding maintenance is largely dependent upon if you forecast needing brakes during the coverage period.

I saw their CPO wrap option which extends past CPO. So far have not seen the option to CPO the car after purchase. I will go down and speak with them. I went to school to be an auto technician but changed my major to computer science. Although I am capable of doing everything myself it is nice having someone else do it.

Forgetting the fun, there's also the cost to consider. GF's 328d just needed a new rear diff and transfer case at 59K miles. That was not a cheap job.

You don't need to go to any specific dealer so you can shop around for price.

Usually, 3rd party dealer got their bimmers from BMW auction for those cars that BMW didn't select to get CPO.

Mine doesn't have CPO too even though it only has 30k when I got it. My dealer (3rd party) told me maybe because it was a 2013. I initially didn't get an extended warranty from my dealer because I wanted a BMW CPO warranty.

So I got the car first and talked to a BMW for the CPO extended warranty and I was quoted $5k for up to 75K miles or 2 yrs on top Platinum Plan when my manufacturer's warranty expires.
Shopped around and its about $3k~$4.5k with varying coverage from different companies. Luckily, my dealer called me back to redo the paperworks because they had me fill up an old bank form that the bank doesn't use anymore.

So I was able to ask for their Ext Warranty offer and was able to negotiate a Platinum Plan with up to 100K miles or 3 yrs on top of original for only $1.9k. Just paid the warranty separately and completed redoing the paperworks.
If you didnt buy your car directly from BMW, contact your dealer and maybe they can hook you up with their warranty company.

Just make sure the warranty company only accepts ASE certified service shops because that's the big shops including BMW service shops themselves.

I appreciate the advice. I am not overly concerned with having an extended warranty but will still talk with the dealership and see what they say. The 335i had a year left of the manufacture warranty and nothing needed to be done at that time. During the CPO I had the following done. The only thing listed below that I wouldn't want to tackle myself would be the oil pan gasket.

335i
Oil pan gasket
Oil filter housing gasket
Coolant expansion tank
12v outlets repaired
Seatbelt butler replaced

Spoke with my local dealer and they told me they could CPO the car but they would require that I sell them the car and buy it back from them. I assume they would give me trade in value and then charge me more than what I paid for it. Obviously not worth it but at least I asked.

As for extended warranties I was quoted $3,500 to $5,500. I knew the prices would be a little high but what I get for the cost I will just let the warranty run out. One positive that came out of the dealer visit is that I found out my warranty is up in March, not November like I thought.

Oh no no no no no. Call a few dealers. That is 1000000% not necessary to do. They will need to do an inspection and collect a fee of like $2K to CPO, and the inspection will be an hour of shop time. That's just to cover their ass they cannot certify it, have a problem down the road, then have any issue as to whether or not they should have caught it before writing the policy.

You do not need to get from the same dealer you bought the car from. Check the 2-series pricing thread the guy who runs it is at a dealer out your way I think PM him he can help you.

One of the salesmen hosts the local cars and coffee every month so I'll chat with him at the next one. Thanks for the advice.

I'm shopping around for a very similar car. I'm curious, how are those 19" rims? I'm a bit worried with such small sidewalls that I'd have issues with driveways, speed bumps, poor roads, etc.

I currently have a 04 Forester XT and I can bomb around, not worry or slow much for speed bumps, parking lot entrances, etc.

Speaking of which I'm pretty sure the different size rims have different widths (17 x 7", 18 X 7.5", and 19 x 8"), but the same width tire which seems kind of odd. Any comments?

I'm hoping to get something more like my old WRX performance wise, but don't want to worry because the roads up around Tahoe aren't in the best condition.
