8 Speed Auto Question

Hi all,

I am a new member here and have a question about my 2013 18d SDrive. It is a Diesel fitted with the 8 Speed Auto trans.

How often does the Transmission need to be serviced? Also when does the Can Chain need replacement. I have only 86000km on it at present.

It is hard to get info from Mr Google.

I presume your 8AT is a ZF 8HP45 unit. There are tons of information regarding its maintenance. Per ZF, the tranny oil and transmission filter pan should be changed around 100k km.

One can DIY it. Not hard. The trick is the refill because it has to be warmed up to a certain temp. Videos and threads abound because this transmission is very popular used in cars from BMW M to Dodge Charger to pickup trucks. Many online autopart shop sell complete kit+oil.
