Can I play video files from IPod (not over BT)?
I have those lectures on DVD that I’d like to just listen to in the car. They play fine from the CD/DVD player when I’m driving (no picture, but I just need the audio). My question is, if I transfer those DVD’s to an ipod and plug it in one of the USB ports or even the phone port in the arm rest, will I be able to play them from there?
Thanks! |

If you don't have the optional audio you can't directly plug an iPod in using the USB port, but you can use the 3.5mm jack from the 'pod's headphone output. It's funny how BMW can take the "Universal" out of USB.

Optional audio? You mean upgraded? I have iDrive and it'd be nice to use the steering wheel controls. I'm listening to academic lectures so I have to pause and rewind often when driving.
You are right, BMW has a funny way of doing things. I'm still trying to understand why with all the outside light sensors on this car, the GPS doesn't automatically change to night mode. |

I think BMW calls it "enhanced audio" option, but I think with iDrive you get it too. There's a subwoofer upgrade, which I have, but I don't have the option that makes the USB work with iPod, so I use flash drives for my music, which does work with the standard USB port.

If the car sees the iPod as a storage device when plugged in the usb than you can code the car to play certain video files. The option is not enabled from the factory.
