CarPlay retrofit

Has anyone done CarPlay retrofit for e84 x1? I am interested but I want to pick one that is confirmed to work on e84 and has a documented install. Anyone got any insight to this? If I like it I'd be likely to do it on my 135i next. Thanks!

I did for my 2014 Xi. I don't remember which vendor I used but it worked great for a year or so and then all my instruments started periodically "re-setting" and then the iDrive screen went out completely. I pulled the CarPlay box and it's wiring and everything returned to normal. Pity, because it worked a treat until the issues began. I need to carefully inspect the wiring and see if I can find any breaks or other issues. When I was searching, it looked like most of the units were the same. I wouldn't be surprised if they all came from the same assembly line.

I have done this on my E84 with Unichip box. it works fine. the only issue i have is the audio quality very bad since it's using a AUX cable. I think they have a newer box with wireless carplay which should improve connection stability.

I used this one. the website does not describe well what you get. you have carplay, but not android auto. the carplay works, but Siri crashes. I think the stupid thing is looking for its own mic. will ask the seller.
also put in a rear view cam and still not able to get the electrical right, but getting close. the same unit sells on amazon for more $.

there are several vids on YT showing the install, but they don't show running the cables, which is the tough part.
