Do you think we could make our own hatch pop kit? It's basically higher rated struts and it appears some of the VW models have a secondary electric (safety?) latch mechanism that has to be coded out. I'm not sure if BMW has the 2nd latch.
I don't mind paying ECS for their R&D though, their products are usually very well thought out.

Props on the continued research.
If the system is just changing out the struts my suggestion would be find a place with a large section of struts and see if you can get something to work. I'd bring a six pack of beer for their trouble of letting you experiment. The one thing to note is that the trunk may need to be pushed out a bit like on the Z4 so that the struts can take over. That is the strut can have a dead zone that one needs to get through. With the VW they probably need to flip the mounting bracket to get the needed arc to get through that dead zone. With the X1 flipping the bracket on the body is not possible. Last edited by BeEmVe; 12-14-2014 at 09:58 PM.. |

Thanks, those are good points. That may be where the ejector bump stops come in.

My "mad scientist" friend came up with nothing. Sorry for not updating sooner.
The helper strut idea is interesting but my very short wife had a hard enough time closing the rear hatch as it is.
