Steering Wheel controls

On your steering wheel, the Up / Down buttons for changing CD tracks ...

... is your up arrow "next" track or "back" ?

On my E90 Up was next and Down was back

On my X1 Up is back and down is next

Seems odd that they'd make a conscious decision to swap them around

That is rather strange. On mine up is back (it follows the iDrive selection). Do you have iDrive on both? They could have changed it based on that.

No in fairness the last car did not have I drive and my X1 does

Maybe that's why?

The steering wheels are identical, it just seemed odd that's all

Thanks for confirming

OP I noticed the same thing.

In my E90 with no nav the up arrow is next track and down arrow is previous track.

In my X1 with nav it is the opposite.

I keep confusing them all the time.

Thanks All - I asked in BMW and they looked at me like I'd gone mad
