Delivery

You're right, but, then again, you wouldn't be picking up a BMW.

ED offers 1/2 price airfare on Lufthansa for companion, ~7% off of MSRP, numerous drop off points and you get to drive your car on the A-Bahn. It's more about the experience than what perks you're looking to glam off of BMW. The 2nd best delivery experience was in SC at the Performance Center, which you might prefer since they put you up in a Marriott the night before, give you dinner, breakfast and lunch the next day.

Unfortunately this one doesn't make it to the US. The little amber reflector is required thanks to our lovely DOT.

Is that sort of like the Tow Bar option?

Actually Volvo's are pretty nice. Just came from an XC 90 which I had for 6 years.. Great vehicle for the price. Kind of hard to understand why X5 is so much more and it is made in South Carolina as opposed to Sweden.

I have been to the South Carolina Factory for a Z3 Weekend. Fun event but I don't think I need to visit South Carolina ever again. I would go to Munich again as most of my relatives live there. I was wondering if there was something I was missing. As I rented a Mercedes C class for 300 dollars for 11 days last fall so really you would be losing more by paying for your car while it is in transit and the fact that you could get a Diesel vehicle which would save you a lot on gas.

I guess it would be fun to drive it on the Autobahn. I only got up to 170 kmh in the Mercedes as my mother and mother-in-law were in the back seat.

Truthfully it would be nice to get a 5 Series with European delivery as the rental agencies dont' seem to have anything big enough to carry 4 people comfortably and their luggage around europe.

It's made to a very different level of materials and finish. The same way a Santa Fe is cheaper than the XC90. Nothing wrong with Volvos, I like their cars, but the XC90 is not playing the same game as the X5, ML or RR Sport. Since X5 sales have always been stronger than XC90 sales, and Volvo has changed ownership a few times since the X5 came out while BMW remains independent, I think ze Germans have this one figured out a little better than the pickled herring set.

US labor isn't much cheaper than German labor but not having to pay freight on the X cars saves BMW money on cars that are sold in large volume to our market.

I don't know about the current ML but in 2003 I test drove the Infinite FX 45, Mercedes ML, Volvo XC 90, and BMW X5 and I ended up going with the FX 45. I would say the quality of the ML was jokably bad compared to the other vehicles. Awful steering and no pick up. It felt like a KIA.

I actually liked the Volvo XC 90 better than the FX 45 at that time but at that time a ship carrying the XC 90's sank in the north sea and cause a shortage of cars thus causing no Discounts. THe FX 45 I got 8k off and paid 40 and traded it in 3 years later for 32k. You wouldn't get that with a BMW.

The X5 was better off road but the XC 90 is a beast in the snow. I drove it in 24 inches of snow with no problem.

Anyway if you think workers in South Carolina make as much as those in Bavaria or Sweden you are mistaken. When I went to the factory a worker in South Carolina told me they made less than 20 dollars an hour. On average I read they make half as much as German BMW workers. And I am guessing Swedish workers make quite a bit with the cost of living there.

Factor in the extra tax the EU folks pay and the benefits that BMW provides the US worker (mostly covered by the EU tax) and it's nearly a wash in terms of total pay.

I worked for a German company, and for professionals, the COLA for a US worker to make them whole in DE was roughly 40-50%. Even then, most who made the move felt they were less than whole at those rates.

Oh, and yes, back then ML's were awful and Infinitii were still good.

Servotronic steering is now standard across all versions of the X1. Hydraulic steering is gone.

Actually, Servotronic and Hydraulic steering are not mutually exclusive. Or in other words, Servotronic does not equal EPS.

I can't find an sDrive so my only choice is ordering. If I were to order today, are any of the existing BMW financial service deals (build out cash) valid since they'll be MY2015?

I'm thinking of getting an X1 before the end of the month. I'm getting 5.5% off MSRP after all the discounts from a local dealer.

Nope, all those deals are for 2014 MY. The lease rates for 2015 models has not even been released yet. I expect all this will change on April 1st. Hopefully we'll be in for some good news.

Heard from my CA today, BMWFS released 2015 x1 lease rates:

2015 X1 is 60% for 10,000 miles and .00133. So, basically, same as 2014 has been, but MF up .00003 from '14 March rates. No incentives of course.
