Mercedes GLA review
Thought folks might find this interesting. Motor Trend gave high marks to the GLA and its hot rodder AMG brother. implications? Next X1 has its work cut out and wonder if we will get an X1M to compete with the GLA AMG? I saw a GLA in NYC today and it looks really good - a real head turner.

Yeah, they seem very nice. Between the GLA, Q3 and the new Discovery Sport, this segment is going to have so many more options when my X1 lease is up in a couple of years. The Fiat 500X also looks really nice for a lower price point.

The GLA I saw was black with sport package. The LED headlights and overall profile are stunning. Everyone was turning to look and pointing at it. If BMW doesn't bring it with the next gen X1 and/or X2, I may leave the fold for slicker pastures. I am already unhappy that the N55 engine will not be available in the upcoming X1. I don't think they have plans for a transverse mount of the engine. Maybe they will surprise us. They cannot afford to ignore AMG GLA.

Love the styling on the GLA...what kills me on all the newer Mercedes is that the shifter consists of a "turn signal" stalk on the steering column with R - N - D...that's it. Guess I'm just too old school to accept those kind of changes.

The Japanese has done it 10 years ago with the Subaru Forester STi....the U.S. market never received the STi, but even the 5 speed U.S. spec 2004 Forester 2.5XT hit 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds, with just 210 horses (claimed).

Please don't compare the x1 with the RR evoque. The RR it's from the x3 and glk range. The new x1 will be a total different car from the actual x1. Not much bigger but more wider. More room for the passengers. Hopefully with more quality inside since the actually x1 is not better that a Lada. The gla is a very balance car specially with the amg body kit. The center dash board and tablet is very poor quality. The q3 was a mistake. Trying to shrink a q5 was a bad ideia. Look at the sales of the q3....

Not sure I could be happy with the base car's relatively low horsepower. Plus I noted in commercials for the 2015 model starting price has gone from 29K to 33K.

The FWD version isn't yet available so current prices reflect the more expensive AWD system. A few more ponies in the base engine would be nice. The x1 is a few ticks quicker and gets the same mpg.

360hp 2000cc MB vs 340hp 3000cc BMW and you're complaining about the MB?
What's the base engine because I don't think you in to the 45AMG or 35i. X1 318. Base here: X1 18i 150hp X1 16d 116hp GLA200 156hp GLA200 cdi 136hp Seems USA gets different models then Europe again, sometimes in Europe's favor and sometimes in USA's favor. We got the X1 28i now but still no X1 35i. |

Trying to keep the comparison as much apples to apples as possible. 2015 BMW X1 sDrive 28i - 8 speed automatic - $30,900 -240-hp / 2.0L 2015 MB GLA - 7 speed automatic - $31,300 -208 HP / 2.0L That is of course here in the U.S.

I looked carefully at GLA before ordering my 35i. The interior, like the CLA was very cramped and put me off.
Also, in comparison to the X1, the co$t of the AMG ver$ion of the GLA is ridiculou$

Trying to figure out how (if?) this is really a
4.3 0-60 and a 12.8 quarter mile CUV?!? If true, I may have to consider MB... How does it get so quick? The Macan turbo (and my Dinan 35i), have hp/wt in that same ballpark (all in the mid 10.5 to 1 hp/wt ratio) GLA45 AMG & Macan Turbo have better transmissions, but they seem much faster than one would expect. Guess we need to see more head to head comparos.... |

The interior is strange yeah. I'm used to it now, a friend has a CLA and he's girlfriend a B.
However I like the style of the seats (A, CLA, GLA). Total off topic now but I have seen the interior of the Porsche Panamera, omg, so nice those seats. The dash of a BMW is still good looking to me, clean and good, a lot of car brands have there dash full of buttons, even pilots are complaining the car has more buttons then a air plain, now even on the steering wheel. |

I was just reading the specs on the GLA AMG on MBUSA.com
4.8 sec to 60. 355hp, 23/29 MPG. That mileage is impressive for the performance. I thought my x1 with 5.3 to 60 with 18/27 MPG was good for the class. I can't find the GLA AMG's weight. I know at 3900lbs the x1 is a porker. |

So...I just went to MB dealership and sat in GLA. Interior quality and design to head and should above our current gen X1. The steering wheel is fantastic feeling and gauges are clear and easy to read. I do not like that there is a column shifter...talk about yesteryear. I understand why MB made that decision but I still don't like it. The seats were base model and we're ok, but no where near Msport seats, but then I sat in one that had the sport seat and they are every bit as good as Msport seats. Plus the seat controls are on the door. Smart and MB trademark. Even the vents are nice. Floating nav screen looks cheap. Like the X1, MB kills with amount of options. I did not have time for a test drive but the overall feeling of luxury is high and feels like money well spent. The next gen X1 has it's work cut out. I do believe BMW will step up to the plate given the stiff competition. Saw the new C class too and it's interior is well above BMW 3 series and AUDI A4.
