is it alright to install peel & stick sound insulation underneath front wheel wells?

Hi guys just wondering if I can install peel and stick foam sound insulation underneath front wheel wells to block out those holes and in a hope to cut out some engine and road nose The material is 5mm thick and advertised as damp proof. I heard that such materials could help in condensation causing rust to develop. I have installed it from inside in the engine compartment and wanna know if I can install it over the wheel wells' plastic covers and the metal part in our front wheels which I hope will help reduce a lot of tyre noise to penetrate through the wheel wells and through the firewall into the cabin? I see our X1 have quite a fair bit of work done at the rear wheels for noise but nothing at all at the front wheel areas.

Appreciate all your suggestions.. thanks

I used aluminum tape (HVAC) to cover the openings in the metal portion of both front wheel wells to keep water/snow/road salt from entering the engine compartment. No problems if its installed over a clean surface IMO.
