Need opinions on X1 purchase
Hey everyone. I used to own a 2013 X1 35i in Valencia Orange. X Line package with other stuff. I loved that car. The perfect blend of utility and performance. I got it with 13k miles in 2015 as a CPO car.
I had to have the PCV system replaced which was the whole valve cover and that was about it. In about 5k miles, the transfer case started whining slightly. It was quite quiet, but I am sensitive to auto noises. Took it to the dealer they confirmed the whine. They pulled it, changed the fluids and they told me they 'clocked it'. Not sure what that was. It was quiet for about 75 miles then it started over again. I took it back. They had it for almost 3 months. Ended up ordering a new transfer case from Germany. That one lasted for about 150 miles before the whine started. I took it back they pretty much gave up. I decided to lemon law it. BMW was awesome and gave me all my money back minus mileage. Zero issues with them. Fast forward to now. I still loved that car and I am in need of another car now that my son took our Highlander to school. Here is what I am looking at. 2013 X1 35i, 113k miles. M sport package, driver assist, chromeline tech package, harmon kardon, pano roof. Paint is nice, newer tires. All the fluids have been changed (trans, diffs, t-case, oil) 2nd owner with all receipts. New waterpump, oil filter housing gaskets, radiator, new hoses, and spark plugs. AFE cold air intake and VSRF chargepipe installed. VSRF downpipe, VSRF big intercooler (not sure which one) and a set of H&R sport springs new in the box to go on. Plus he did a muffler delete on it. Runs great. Drives great. Looks great. Not perfect. Needs a battery and a windshield. PPI at local indy shop gave it a clean bill with it needing a valve cover gasket eventually. Very slight leak. There are codes but he says all are related to the undervolting battery. What would you pay for it? I made an offer of 12k but he would like 13k for it. Not many of these around in my favorite color. Not many around at all for sale. Looking for feedback asap. I should have posted it sooner, but PPI was Thursday. EDIT - I guess I am gunshy on another one of these and a BMW in general. I have had old ones and raced an E30 in the first year of Spec E class so I am a pretty good wrench. But I need something reliable to drive and AWD for snowy pass crossings this winter. |

I agree that I am very skeptical of mods unless done by a competent shop and even then I need to make sure it was done right. Seeing as there is very little to screw up with an intake change and with all the updates/maintenance done at the dealer with receipts, I am less worried about it. Good call though. EDIT - They are in need of a larger car to accommodate their family. |

Charge pipe is a needed mod because the stock plastic pipe is crap. Intake is more cosmetic/ sound...
Muffler delete is a different issue as now your are changing the exhaust and emissions of the car. |
