My New 35i M Sport snow test!

2014 X-1 35i M Sport Black on Black 18" wheels with stock Tires.

We got a few inches of snow yesterday so I took her out for a drive. I'll spare you the details except to say she handles like a dream on ice and snow.

The one detail I want to share is this: I live in the country so I was able to play around a little. I found a sweeping curve marked at 30 mph that was covered in snow with some ice. I took the turn at 30 MPH and I held my line with no trouble. So I decided to circle back and take the turn a few more times! hehe

35mph - still held the line
40mph - still held the line but I could feel that was "the limit"
45mph - slight power drift! very controllable
50mph - full on power slide. stayed on the power and just pushed right on thru the turn! This was very confidence inspiring! I knew exactly where I was as far as traction.

I took the turn a few more times at 50plus. I wasn't able to keep an eye on the speed as much as the road. I know I could get thru faster but I wasn't there to be stupid, just learning what the car feels like at the limit and how it handles when it starts to break loose.

What I can tell you is that there are no surprises!

I'm sure you have the all season tires. I did not yet get my X1 (I ordered it last week), but I had an X5 a few year ago and it was wonderful on snow and ice, even better than my friend's Jeep Grand Cherokee. The BMW X-drive system is really good in bad weather.

Yes they are all season. I'm happy with them so far. I wouldn't want them at the track but good all around.

It was rhetorical! Obviously! haha

I saw your ride on another post. I'm going to wait till spring to start "upgrades" but I got some ideas from you! So thanks!

Thanks for sharing! I was still debating whether to get snow tires for the upcoming season or just use my current all seasons. Since I just took delivery last month, I might just wait then till next winter before I get some snow tires

After driving my X3 in the snow for the last 3 years I will have the dealer put on snow tires when I take delivery in 2 to 3 weeks. Both have the same engine, transmission and wheels. At 500 pounds less the X1 should be a handful if I am not careful.

If I lived in Loveland, I would too!

This is good news to me. I did last year's Ohio winter with a 135i and Bridgestone Potentza's. Two flakes of snow and forget it, you aren't going anywhere. I pick up my new 2014 X1-35 tomorrow so hopefully I'll be better in the snow this year.

Will do. I was amazed that it was only 5 1/2 weeks from date of order until delivery.

Good info I have been trying to decide on whether to run the stock tires over the winter or get some winter tires. I am guessing that the stock tires are the Perrelli Cinturato P7 All-season? If so we have the same wheels and tires. Are your wheels staggered?
