Was wondering about your reply, thanks. My standard setup that has 225/50/17 tyres, when I try to put my hand between the wheel/tyre and shock there is not that much room, maybe 20mm max, I hav'nt measured. That's why I was interested in your 9" on the front c/w 245/40/19's. BMW say to me 8"max. on front. I believe your original setup 18x8 with the offset of 30, I rang BMW in Aust. and after hard time they gave me that 30 offset. Using the above figures your new wheel/tyre setup - front 2.86% and rear 2.33% is just within the recommended 3% diameter of original tyre. I realize you have sports suspension and then changed to KW v1 coilover springs, is that what they are? Am I right. I'm just an old guy not to mechanically minded looking to change my setups and make my X1 look good. Things cost 3 to 4 times more in Aust. and it's hard going to find info. Sorry for annoying you guys.

I think our setups go inwards 1/2" and the rest is on the outside. Is have to look at the paperwork I have with the offset and back spacing of the wheels I'm ordering. Stock wheels are 8" so I can see a 9 or even a 9 5" fitting if you have the stones to start cutting and rolling fenders

No annoyance at all GTony

If you were to stay at stock, or near to stock, ride height, then I think 9" would be a fairly simple fit up front. If you do want to go lower then it may be possible without having to shave the plastic trim pieces on the arches/fenders/guards (depending on which regional version of English you happen to speak ), but you would likely need to stick very close to the stock tire diameter and be very picky with offsets on the wheels. As you say, there isn't massive clearance between the tire and shock on the inside, and that plastic trim piece on the outside is wider than you would otherwise appreciate when trying to fit bigger wheels/tires. I can tell you that 8.5" is easily workable. My winter wheels were 18x8.5 with a 34 offset and I had zero issues whatsoever.

Suspension was originally the M-Sport and as you correctly state, it's now KW V1 coilovers.

It depends on exactly what you're looking for. If you want to go a little lower and slightly more aggressive with the wheels, then coilovers likely aren't a necessity, and an 8.5" front, 9.5" rear wheel setup would be a slightly more manageable fit. Not that I'd ever put someone off going the route I did as I absolutely love it, but it does take some work (shaving of plastic trims, rolling fenders) to get it right.

Just used the stock bolts for adjustment. It's not within spec.....somewhere around-2.1 to -2.3 in the rear. You will definitely need adjustable arms to get back to spec when lowered on the V1's.

Hi all,
I Just recieved my First BMW; Le Mans Blue X28i M Sport. After loving my First 2wheel BMW, C600 Sport. I looked at and ordered the X1. The Scooter is Cosmic Blue and while not quite the same shade, I love both colors. I plan to keep the X1 fairly stock, where I have already put much work into the Scooter. I look forward to a lengthy ownership of the X1 and My Scooter...Name: Day 1.jpg

`Hi skylineguv, Many thanks for your long reply. Notice your a 2nd Lieutenant, I was in NAM 1969, no rank. I have been looking at different set up's for along time now. The reason I commented on yours was it looked fantastic and was shocked how wide/low you could set the X1 up. Where I am we don't need Winter/Summer set ups but the roads, especially some of our highways are really bad. This is a big factor for everyone when determining wheels and tyres for your car. Anyhow cheaper including freight to get from USA, which I did. Wont be fitting tyres and wheels to my car for some time so no pictures. Fantastic service from CARiD. My wheels are HD WHEELS- MSR- CHROME. Only 18x7.5" wide but will look good when fitted. You can look up. They don't sell 6 Cylinder X1's here, bummer. Again many thanks to you and Twix for your help and putting up with an old Aussie. All the best, Tony Gee.

Well, not a bike, but the BMW Scooter. 2013 Cosmic blue, 0-60 in 5.8 by GT Pro, will put her on the track for validation. I put an S1000rr tail tidy on,
de-catted her and have Apocravic Titanium pipe.

The slip on looks great man! Those BMW scooters have a lot of balls and are more capable than some motorcycles.

those are two great bikes. I test rode the new GS and was vey impressed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the K1300S replacement will be K1600 based, maybe K1600S? A six cylinder hyperbike with 200hp would be sweet.

The GTL is quicker but it is so smooth you do not realize how fast you are going. The GSW tries to pull your arms out of their sockets if you give it a lot of throttle. I love them both for different reasons. My X1 is passing through the Panama Canal tomorrow. I will post some pictures when it arrives.
