I like the front on both, but BMW's back takes the cake. I dislike the fact that the rear hatch door opens up higher on the Audi.
Nonetheless, both are great products.

The direct rival from VW Group is the VW Tiguan, but is not as sporty as the X1... Audi Q3 will be its main opponent... I don t like A4 Allroad stiling at all

Also, the Audi interior is the benchmark; BMW is getting better at it but not quite at the Audi level. Just my opinion.

<-- I cant stand any audi interior, it looks so dead and tasteless.

The real issue is that BMW does not put in the quality interior designs like they devote to the sedans and Z models. All X vehicles suffer with a poor arrangement inside as well as the one series. Look at the 3,5, and 7 series, they all have the best interior designs vs the competition (IMHO). They just need to stop being so cheap really....

their concepts and phillosophy about their X & 1er are completely different with an ugly attitude. they need to get rid of that and make people believe that they are in a BMW when they sit in the cabin, there should be certain standards applied throughout all models, but its just not the case. I hate it, but it doesnt bother me as I have an E90 so i have absolutely no complaints.

I wouldn't agree with this. I don't necessarily like the layout of the Audi interiors, too much clutter IMO, but I think the materials, fit and finish are nicer and design elements better integrated. The 3 series has a very modular design comparatively, lots of plastic, and that fat dash accent trim slapped across the front. It's made to be taken apart easily and it shows. Need to take into consideration small details of the 3 series like the placement of the window buttons (need monkey arms to reach) and a wide assortment of clashing textures as well...

I'm still a little confused as to why this thing exists. Sure, it looks awesome. I have nothing against it at all. I am only puzzled by BMW's intentions with it. I mean, has anyone who purchases an X3 been like "Damn, I wish it was smaller." Can anyone tell me what the target audience is with the X1?

Im in Australia and it makes a LOT of sence here:
> Audi Australia doesnt import the A4 allroad
> It is significantly cheaper than any A4 of similar spec
> It is significantly cheaper than a Q5 of similar spec
> It is no where near as boring/ugly as the Q5
> There are very few high tech all wheel drive diesel cars here
> It is WAY cheaper than a 3 series touring
> BMW Aust. dont import a 3 series touring with the 23d engine nor with xDrive
> A diesel Tiguan is just too slow and boring to bother entertaining that option

There is nothing on the market here that has all wheel drive, can tow my 1.2ton boat/trailer combo, can come close to 0-100 in 7.3s, can return 7.8L/100 in the city with a base price under AUD60,000!
