Go with the X1 28i if you want better fuel economy and you are not interested on tunning your vehicle or adding more power to it, if you don't care that much about fuel economy and want Tunning and more power....Go for the X1 35i

The 28i is still way more powerful than the 18i and 20i models that most countries get. It's the same engine as the 20i, but 60 more hp, so in a way you can think of it as already tuned. It's quite agile compared to most 4 cylinder crossovers, and no slug.

The 35i is, if anything, overpowered. Which is why it's such a fun car. You can't tell from the looks, and if you see one, you might expect it to drive like a typical X3/X5. But I have a suspicion that very few soccer moms will own one.

28i if you're NOT interested in 'tunning'? Lol. I think you should focus on placing more M badges on your ride. The N20/26 begs for tuning.

Well I just got a J.D. Power survey to take for the X1 Assume it's the initial quality one.

I believe that a 28i is more of an economy vehicle...the 35i has more tuning potential, and a well tuned 35i will give more performance than a well tuned 28i.

Ug I hate the things, always filled with marketing info and questions that do not pertain to the vehicle (have had them ask questions for things not even available on those cars). Having seen th surveys I do not think the JD power ratings have any true value and always toss them.

Interesting. Mine was pretty spot on for the vehicle.

The N20 does beg for tuning. Which is why BMW released the 28i, which is a tuned 20i - same engine, but 240 hp instead of 180. With BMW doing such a good job, there is less tuning potential remaining. Sure, you can eke out more power, but not all that much without hardware or fuel changes.

wouldn't change a thing....Alpine White SDrive, MSport, 19 inch wheels, HK audio, paddle shifters (which are pretty much never used but look cool with the M wheel). perfect family hauler. plenty of fun, quick, great handling, and looks awesome. only big change I made was black grill before I took delivery. And for less than 40K, its a bargain--especially considering the fun factor, and the options (considerably less than a similar optioned 3 series). only thing I do miss is a back-up camera, but not enough to think about spending money on the tech package, and in general wife and I are not fans of nav systems.

I give it a 9.5 out of 10!

Personally I think it's either all or nothing. Get a sports car for the performance and an off roader for the off roading. I'd just an sDrive 28

In my case I own only one vehicle, so it's nice to have something sporty, but I can also use to haul stuff in.

Just got mine

I've got no regrets with my sDrive28i, but then I'm still in the lust stage.

For the last 15 years I've driven diesel trucks; the last 8 of those in a 05 Ford Excursion Ltd 4wd. A very big change to the X1: 5' shorter in length, 1' shorter in heigth, and 4,400 lbs lighter. No need to discuss turning radius because the Excursion just really didn't have any. Acceleration was leisurely in the Ex, and left in a cloud of smoke. I pulled a 34' Airstream behind the trucks, and it dressed out at 9,800 lbs, so I needed the power and torque the diesel gave me.

The X1 is such a thrilling change in transportation for me that I'm enjoying every aspect of it. In Texas, I couldn't find a dealer within a 500 mile radius of me that had an X1 with the cold weather package - something I really wanted. The local dealer got one with heated seats, so that's my new car. I love the tremendous, to me, mpg's in town and on the road. It's responsiveness is a true joy. Many years ago I had a new Nissan 300Z with twin turbos, and the X1 has brought back many good memories.

I'm looking forward to many years of driving with this car.

trading the extra two gears, fuel economy, and great steering is worth the 2 cylinders. also, if the 28i is good enough for the germans then it should be good enough for me. so i think that the 28i is just fine, and i regret nothing because i got my 2014 X1 xDrive 28i (alpine white with red leather) with every option available except the servotronic, it is in my moms X3 35i and it feels numb, relatively, of course

Tunes

You betcha. My IPod has over 13g of tunes, about 4 days worth. I've also uploaded about 6 cd's, and I'm trying to learn how to use the USB port to upload more, but I don't think I've got the right memory card.

If I play the Ipod while charging it using the usb, I can't play it again using blue tooth. I've got to re-mate the ipod to the car's blue tooth. Is there a reason for this or is it user error????

The BT mating thing is very finicky. It's teally bad if my wife leaves her phone and we use mine. When she gets back in, it can be tricky to get it to recognize hers again.

I tend to just stream Spotify from my phone and she either does that or streams from her music on the phone. I forget that there's internal storage.

Hard drive

There's a 20 meg hard drive, and I'd really like to just upload all of my music to it. First I've got to get something other than a flash drive because the car doesn't recognize it at all - it tells me to look in ports that aren't there.

Make sure that flash drive is formatted in FAT32 (file System) because that's what the system recognizes.

All I use is a 16 gig thumb drive with my mp3s on it in the USB. Haven't even activated satellite.
