Where's my Shark Fin Antenna?!
Since I took the delivery of my X1, I've been questioning the quality of my radio. It has pretty bad reception comparing to my old e87. One day, while I was picking up my car, the shark fin antenna came across my mind!! Not a bit of surprise, I didn't find one, not even a hole...
Then I looked up in the web, some has and some doesn't.... Can any one tell me if that's an option? or it comes as a bundle if you order the navi, just like the idrive? Thanks! |

Does anyone know yet whether the new MY2011 Blootooth hands-free option (6NN) will trigger the installation of a shark fin?
I'm also curious to know how some people have been able to request the fitting of a shark fin when it's not a part number order-able item?

My dealer told me the shark fin is only for gps reception, the actual radio antena being in the three radial lines of the rear window heating system. Not sure if retrofitting the fin will change that.

Well, that the antenna is in the defrost system, that I am sure of, and this also applies to some other bmw models. Now, whether the shark fin, if present, is also/instead used as radio antenna, I have no idea.

Shark fin comes with Navi and/or the 644 Bluetooth option. Not used for the radio, only for telephone and GPS. (Not sure about DAB reception though)

I confirm what Senwar has said. Just recieved my X1 with bluetooth option 644 and it does come with the shark fin. Also, once you have the right cradle for your phone, the aerial is hardwired and communicates via the external aerial (fin).
