BMW/MINI will share the future of 4 cylider engines with PSA Peugeot

Currently, BMW/MINI engines are supplied from a partnership between BMW and Peugeot, and now BMW have signed an agreement with PSA Peugeot to continue the relationship indevelopment of a next generation 4 cylinder engine which would likely be found again in the MINI, but the application there is certainly not limited.

Press release:

Paris. The BMW Group and PSA Peugeot Citroën will continue their successful engine collaboration. An agreement to that effect was signed by Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, and Philippe Varin, Chairman of the Managing Board of PSA Peugeot Citroën, in Paris.

The two companies have agreed to develop the next generation of the jointly designed 4-cylinder petrol engine which will meet EU 6 requirements. Currently, the engine is being used in several MINI, Peugeot and Citroën brand models.

The partners have also confirmed to examine other possible areas for cooperation at systems and component level, with the aim of leveraging synergies in the development, production and procurement of selected components.

“We have always been very successful in our cooperation with our partners, and that is particularly true with regard to PSA. We are delighted to continue our engine cooperation and look into options for further collaboration.” said Reithofer.

PSA Peugeot Citroën’s Chairman of the Managing Board Varin declared “this new agreement with BMW is confirming the success of the cooperation between our two companies which has produced 1.3 million engines since 2006. I am confident that the next generation of jointly developed engines will reach the same success as the current generation”.

I agree on both points. Too bad they don't tailor their vehicles, and service to the US consumer.

i want to piss on every Peugeot ive ever seen, they are no better than Renult. They build the most pathetic vehicles on a mass scale. disgusting, id take a kia over that shit any day.

and the two homeboys at the table look like they have a little something special going on... that smiles too cheerful.

looks like our 6 cylinder re-sale value will go up dramatically in a few years once these engines hit the markt. 4-bangers, hate'em. no one will want these POS

BMW has to have a way of cutting overhead since they don't have any other major partners to gain economies of scale like other producers like VW/Audi has. So I'd get used to seeing more collaboration between BMW and other smaller car producers.

Yeah.....totally right. That boat anchor S14 was a terrible motor too. What the heck were they thinking?

Seriously.....as someone who publishes that you are a BMW tech in your signature line, why the heck would you make such a niave comment? Just because the 318 was a slow car does not mean it is a poor design. Have you ever bothered to ask what the design goals are for a certain product or a certain option package or a certain powerplant offering?

The 318 was aimed at those who want the BMW status but on a budget. So as a company they did not spend millions on R&D for a target breed of consumers that were not looking to spend a fortune.

A design always has limitations my niave friend.
