D and DS Steering Feel 2015 Xdrive28 MSport
I am pretty darn sure that my steering gets much heavier the second I drop my transmission into DS from D. Others have said it is just the servotronic doing its thing like always and my imagination. Can anyone confirm 100% one way or the other. It seems to me that no matter how I am driving and at virtually any speed the second I go into DS the steering gets heavier as well as the obvious shifting changes. It makes logical sense to me since BMW says that position is meant for sportier driving so I am thinking they adjust steering feel AND shift points. Or is it shifting alone?

Very few people have a 2015 to compare, yet.
I have 2014 s28i M Sport which is always in sport mode and has electric steering which feels great to me. |

So over on Facebook I was given a tip to call the BMW Genius Hotline:
Our dedicated team to help answer all of your product related questions. 1-844-4GENIUS (443-6487) bmwgenius@bmwusa.com They said that putting it in DS will change the shifting and also tighten up/weight the steering. On my car it is very apparent. |

After readings the OP my first thought was the steering did not get heavier when in sport mode! So I put my '14 X1 28i with EPS to the test! Drove around in D for about 5 mins to get the feel and then drove in DS for about 5 mins and then went back to D for a min and realized that the steering does get heavier when in DS. Thanks Dan

Does the steering ratio change also?
I think I can confirm the change in feel in a 2014 model.
I was wondering if this was solely a change in pressure required, or does the steering ratio at a given speed change also? |

I was really disappointed to find that the SDrive28 now has electric steering.

The X1 in xdrive all wheel drive configuration is fortunate to have one of the last BMW production models with hydraulic steering. Owners are more fortunate not to miss that wonderful feel that is now so elusive. The rest of the line up is electric steering.

I have no problems with the SDrive electric steering. It has good feel and feedback. Obviously BMW is getting better at this.

Someone know if the 2015 Sdrive model has any trickle down technology from the new electric steering system used in the 2015 M3/M4? If so, then RTOWELL's above claim re steering feel improving is legit. I know BMW did a lot work on the new steering system in the M3 and M4.
Any other Sdrive owners with X1, what's your opinion. Good improvement between 2013 and 2015??? |

Love the steering in my 2013 xdrive.Do you wait for maintenance minder to get to zero before going in for oil change? Mine shows 2000 miles to go...

I knew oil change was coming up and then "service due" popped up. I set the appointment and am going to be just at or a little past predicted mileage when I go in Thursday.
