Ordered August 20. Left Bremerhaven on the Otello on September 18. Due to arrive at Port of Baltimore on September 30. Since my dealer is in Maryland, I hope to have it fairly soon thereafter.

The status remained at that point until September 19, when it changed to 'in transit".

The X1 is on the Antares Leader, heading to Port Hueneme and that ship departed Bremerhaven on on September 15, early morning, so the BMW tracking information is/was running four days behind at that point.

Because the Antares Leader is a NYK Lines ship rather than a WWL ship, you can't track a specific vehicle by VIN. I have verified the ship information with the dealer. They are agreeing with the ship schedule and are currently telling me that it is expected to arrive at Port Hueneme on October 10 and they should have it, in Southern California, on October 15.

For those interested, one site I checked says Panama Canal on October 1, the other says September 29. It is difficult to accurately track a ship across the Atlantic, but once it gets close to Panama, the various AIS tracking sites will show its location and the Canal website has web cams that it you time it right will show the ship going through the locks.

Yes the 25 day trip from Germany to California is a difficult wait, without a lot of updates.
We're on the same boat. I was able to track my last car through the canal. Hopefully will be able to again.

What state are you in? I'm on bimmerpost mobile so i can't see info.

Ordered our X1 Sep.11, and as of Sep.21 is still showing as "ordered documented" when checking the production # on bmwusa.com, and dealer tells me the order status is "112". Curious if this is just the website not being updated, or if there is a production backlog. Noticing that many posters see their vehicles start production a few days after ordering. Curious how quickly the production status is updated.

My CA emailed me that production started on Wednesday. The BMW site did not show it in production until sometime on Thursday.

Mine was in the order processing for about a week and a half or two weeks also.

I am finding out that an X1 making it to port in the US - or at least West Coast - doesn't mean it is quickly on its way to your dealership. An X1 already allocated to my local dealer that I had initially planned to purchase (before deciding to order an X1) arrived last Wednesday 9/19 at Port Hueneme. I am pretty sure of that, having used the excellent tracking info available. But that X1 is apparently still sitting there as of today, one week later. The dealership gently asked me just a day ago if I would still be interested in purchasing that car, but still couldn't tell me when it would be at the dealership.

Maybe that's typical? Or maybe that X1 is actually lost? I'll check to see if it ever shows up at the local dealer...

Perhaps it was damaged and they are doing repairs at the VDC.

Plus if the car is not sold yet then any work on it will take a backseat to work on cars that have customers waiting for them.

Are vehicles damaged in transit not a rare phenomenom? I had wondered about myself of something hadn't happened to that particular X1.

What do you think happens when they unload the ship?

There's a shipment of X1s on the Garnet Leader, bound for Port Hueneme tonight. Check Marinetraffic.com and search for the ship name.

And, yes, your advisor should be able to tell you the ship name.

Here is an article on the VDC at Oxnard. Apparently the pics are no longer supported by BMWblog...bummer. Briefly talks about the process once cars arrive:

http://www.bmwblog.com/2006/12/22/di...m-the-factory/

What tirpitz said is correct, cars that have already been sold are considered priority one cars and will generally be processed before other cars.

According to various ship tracking/port websites the Antares Leader is scheduled to arrive at Cristobal, Panama at 0500 GMT (10:00 P.M. Pacific time) on the 29th of Sept. Cristobal is the port just before the main canal in the Panama canal. There is an additional set of locks further west, the miraflores locks. Both have webcams. I am pretty sure at some point we can figure out what time our ship is scheduled to transit through the canal. If i'm able to figure it out and am free I will try to capture some screenshots when the ship goes through.

Took 4 business days from booking to delivery (pune, India)
Of course, the caveat is that I selected a pre-packaged version that the dealer already had in his warehouse

what are the chances? I woke up a half hour ago after working mids, got on the computer to see if I could find the ship, it was at Cristobal, Panama at 8:00 P.M. Pacific time last night. Couldn't find anything on the ship tracking websites. Went to the Panama Canal cams, first one was down...second one at the Gatun locks...Boom, I see a ship that looks just like the Antares Leader. As it keeps moving forward I see the name. This shot is from aprox 3:00 P.M. pacific time on Saturday the 29th.

Also noticed that some marine traffic websites are now stating that the Antares Leader is supposed to hit Port Hueneme on 10/8 instead of 10/10? I can't wait!!

I wonder about a production backlog as well, for orders in the last couple weeks. Seems as if everyone with stories of fast order production, etc., ordered in July or no later than mid-August.

I ordered last Saturday the 22nd and no further info of any kind, as yet...
