Brake Drying?

We DO have it, right? Driving on the cold/rainy/residual slush highways, and when applying the brakes, some instances were 1-2 sec. reaction before they really grabbed. And even some pulling left/right until they warmed up a bit.
And yes, the Rain sensor was actively detecting rain the whole time and wipers were working automatically. So it def knew conditions were wet. What the heck?!

Never heard of brake drying. We do not have anything of the sort.

Ahhhh.....mishmosh....just because you never heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

The X1 does have automatic brake drying. It's supposed to periodically apply the brakes lightly to clear water from the pads. I believe it's activated when the rain sensor is on and, obviously, detects rainfall. Not sure if it is speed sensitive. Attached are specs taken directly from the BMW website.

I have that issue too! When temp drop below 50 and in wet condition the brakes need a second or two to grab. It is scary sometime!

Garage List
Mine feel opposite. When my brakes are cold they're ultra touchy.

in my 3 .. never had this issue. They always grabbed instant no matter what. Pretty sure the x1 35i is the same brake equipment wise as my 335d as well. Just weird. I know the startoff assist works, I can feel the brake standby working, and obv abs/dsc but the brake drying ..... hmmmmmmmmm

No issues with mine, works perfect. You might have to tell them about your issue on your next schedule service.

Let them know of this issue in svc, they checked the brake system, drove it (in the dry of course) found no mechanical or computer faults (the tech is my buddy, and said literally cannot find anything)

I know this thread is old, but I wanted to bump it and see if anyone had any additional info.

X135m hasn't logged in for a while, but I thought he might get a notification from this thread.

I feel like my brake drying feature is no longer working. Sometimes while driving in the rain, I hit the brakes, and nothing happens.

I've read a few places the feature only works with the wipers on high, other says as long as the rain sensor is active the brakes will do this.

Does anyone know what sensor is down by the brakes caliper that tells the caliper to "close". Maybe mine has a dirty connection, or is unplugged.

I find, when it's really raining, or snowing if I hit the brakes, it sometimes takes a half a second for the brakes to grab. It only seems to be a problem when traveling at highway speeds, 65mph+. On back roads, even up to 50/55mph, it seems to not be a problem, at least for me.

Hm, It happened to me the other day on a snowy day, I thought it was normal, tbh. I can't really recall if the windshield wipers were on, as I usually don't leave them on.
