Tires Fitment 245/45/18

Hi there,

Does anyone knows 245/45/18 can be fit on the X1? My concern is about the clearance, what I know is the OEM Staggered setup is F:225/45/18 and R:255/40/18 and it will be approx. 2.5-2.7 slower than OEM respectively; any rubbing issue?

Reason of asking is someone can sell me a set of winter set from a 6-series which is using 245/45/18.

Appreciate your input in advance!

Hi,

I think the subject has been covered in a couple posts but you need ensure your total wheel is not more than 72,6 in diameter.

For example, with the 17 inches the specs are:
RIM 7.5J17 5x120 ET34 Dia72.6
TIRE 7,5Jx17 225/50 R17 H

I personally have the 18'' on don't know the specs by heart.

I am pretty sure the offset on a 6 series (14mm-18mm) is not the same as for our cars. We are setup with the same offset and width setup as the e90/e92/e93 (3 series) but with a bigger overall diameter.

I am 100% sure you will fit the fenders with the size you mentioned... but only if the offset is right as you'll definately have some problems otherwise.

As R0ut3r says the spec for the X1's wheels are PCD : 5x120 Offset : 30 to 50 Bore : 72.6. These figures are valid for 17" to 20" rims.

Fitted with the standard 225/50/17 tyres gives a overall diameter of 25.86" or 657mm.

Assuming you use the 245/45/18 tyres it would give you a new overall diameter of 26.68" or 678mm which is around 3% larger. This is slightly more than the average max recommended variance of +-2.5% but imho it should be OK.

Next thing to look at is the actual rim specification which you should find somewhere on the rim itself. PCD and Bore should be fine because as far as I know all modern BMW's are 5x120 and 72.6 respectively.

However, its the offset that’s going to be a problem. Again, what R0ut3r says is correct, the 6-series's ranges from about 12 to 20 mm which is way different from the 30 to 50mm on the X1. So basically the 6's rims are going to interfere with suspension and/or the body.

I apologise for the lengthy description but there have been a few discussions on this forum about the subject.
