I live 100m west of hou and for the last 3weeks all that you see on a trip is car haulers with 2 vehicles each - usually about a dozen each way. Total approx is 500K

I'm surprised the owner of that E30 M3 didn't retain salvage, unless the car was financed for some reason.

Those cars are already going to crazy money. I don't understand why anyone would pay so much for those cars. The amount of parts and labor they'd need to be serviceable ever again is just insane to think about. Aluminum block motors will need to be fully dismantled and still may have corroded beyond repair.

Maybe financial reasons. Market has fluctuated on those cars. Might have cleared a dandy profit, or might have been upside down and the claim paid more than he could have sold it for.

That e30 is already up to $27k....Curiously, Copart claims the estimated value at $90,000!

Saw briefly last night, abandoned cars are being hauled to a raceway? Seemed appropriated to cover an entire raceway with non-functional cars, NOT

Yep, Texas World Speedway in College Station, TX is one of the many holding areas for these flooded cars. The future of the track had been in question for the past 5 years or so, and during the hurricane a landslide damaged one of the banked turns of the oval. Rather than repair the track, the owners are leasing it out for storage of the flooded cars. Unfortunately, this looks like the end for the once-great racetrack

Dude they didn't tell anyone to leave, to not cause a panic and major traffic jams. No one really knew it was going to be that bad and by the time you did it was to late.

There was no saving those cars.

You know what is going to happen with these cars, someone will buy them clean them up and sell them to some un-expecting individual in north states. This happen every time there are floods like this.

Any tx cars that are insur purchased will have salvage on the registration - maybe not title... but it should show up in carfax.

100% will show up on the title, nearly 100% will show up in a CARFAX. some of these cars will get COD titles only, the rest will get rebuildable salvage titles.

NEED HELP FAST! I may be buying one of them.

I am thinking of buying a Texas flood title branded 328i convertible. The body and interior are nice. The engine runs and idled for 20 minutes without overheating. I was not allowed to drive it but it shifted into D & R and seemed to grab traction. There are a few warnings including reduced engine power malfunction, TPM (tire pressure), and the AC fan does not work at all. It DOES start and run and sounded ok when I revved it up to about 4k, I didn't dare go higher because if I broke it I bought it. There was no water under the oil cap or any rust I could see in the valve cover area below that cap. Is it a safe buy? I know it needs some electrical work but I am a former electronic tech and repairing auto electronics is no big deal to me. Need advice though. P.S. The origami top actually still works. That would be harder to fix than a blown head gasket IMO.

Is it a safe buy? NO.

If someone is not a BMW tech, has one in their pocket, or is a serious BMW DIY'er, it's usually best to stay away from flood cars. A previous electronic background might help a little bit over someone with no technical background at all, but these are more about diagnosing/replacing modules and programming with BMW software than it is about circuit boards and soldering. Specific BMW knowledge is mandatory. If it was actually under any water then you'll be finding issues with flood cars well after you purchase as issues will continue to crop up later as corrosion grows on components.

That's not to say there haven't been some flood branded cars that were a good buy for someone, but if you can't assess the car properly to tell whether it was actually under water then it's best to walk away and avoid the temptation of saving a few bucks.

CoPart is a bunch of scam artists. I dealt with them a lot when I was in the insurance industry. None of their cars are a good deal, and are often hiding a lot of problems in the listing.

Ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffck!!!! That is just surreal. All those cars rotting away. And all that wasted space of a track.

Yeah it really is a shame...Some had hoped that the money from storing cars would allow the owners to re-open the track, but all the cars are gone now and work has started on turning the area into a housing development. Turn 1 has been demolished and this looks like the definitive end for TWS
