23d gearbox ratios

It seems that many people have, like me, noticed that the X1 23d gearbox ratios are a little too high. I am in between 23d's and currently have a 123d, which has totally different ratios. Sixth is a true freeway ratio unlike the 23d which is usable from just 60km/h. Look at the top speeds of the two cars (205 vs 235km/h) and you get the picture as two just how different the gearbox ratios are.

The big question is why the difference given identical engine outputs. Surely only an extra 165kg does not warrant the difference in the two cars?!

The top speed of the 23d is 223 km/h if you order the High Speed package that contains tires with a higher speed range.

But I agree, the car would benefit from longer ratios (to keep the noise down) or better with a few extra gears (like the new X3).
