Not a dumb question, no it's not available in a pkg but you get it in an aftermarket or OEM part. DIY

Interesting and odd that BMW would offer an aftermarket DIY kit to swap interior bulbs over to LEDs and not have that as part of the lighting, ultimate, or some other package. I have seen the kit online and may just have to do the upgrade.

Hi guys,

I have started today the process of replacing my interior bulbs with the 10 LED OEM kit. I have succesfully replaced the map lights and the central one above the mirror and the footwell lights for the driver and passenger.

I have two questions for you:

1. What is the procedure to replace the lights for the back reading lights and door lights (hosted in the same lighting element). I was trying differents scenarios, but I am afraid not to break something. I looked in the manual, on the net, I couldn't find anything. If you gusy did this can you post a picture with thes steps on how to take out the whole assembly and where the screwdriver should go?

2. This kit hase 10 lights. 6 for the interior lights and 4 for the footwell. So, I have installed three round ones on the central light close to the rearview mirror and two flat ones on thedriver and passenger footwell. Where the others supposed to go?
The door lights on the back and the reading lights in the back are different I presume, so you put two round ones for reading and two flats for door lighting?
And the single one round left where it goes?
Or the flat ones should replace the courtesy mirror lights? If yes, what you guys install for the rear door lights?

Obviously, the trunk needs a special order as well, it is a different bulb which is not included in the kit.

So I was wondering, this kit is intended for which lights since we are still left with older yellow lights inside?

I mean, where do you put your 10 lights? I have three round ones on the top front and two flat on the front footwell area. Where should I put other three rounds and two flats? Something is missining in here. What the heck?

I am also considering going back tothe original lights, two of the led lights are buzzing and the ones on the footwell turn off a litle bit later than the ones on the top console. Is it the same in your case?

Thanks.

Just curious, to the posters who have done this mod. Do the new LED lights "fade" to dark like the OEM stock bulbs do after closing the doors?

3 round for the mirror console light (one center - two for each map)
2 flat front foot well

2 round rear map reading light
2 flat door / courtesy light

1 extra round.

Not supplied glove box, vanity (2), cargo.

That said I like the idea of a cargo light on each side. And will make that mod as often one side is blocked.

I have ordered at Bimmian.com my new complete set (courtesy lights, trunk, Glove box, etc.). I am going to put the set back and put it up for sale.

Thank you for your replies.

This kit is worth it because of the extra bulbs that the BMW kit does not have.

Do the LED lights fade in and out like the original lights or are they instant on and off?

I have asked the same question and no one has answered me either.

I will answer this in two weeks if someone does not answer first. My X1 gets to the dealer sometime on Thursday and I will get it on Saturday. I need some time to install my upgrades to include the winter tires.

Hi

The BMW kit fades in and out just like the original bulbs. They do however make a very slight buzzing sound as they fade down, but nothing too bad.

There was a post a while back about changing the rear bulbs and what to do with the 10 bulbs in the kit.

The centre cluster lights are changed in exactly the same way as the front. Take a look at my write up on page 1 for details.

The BMW kit has 10 bulbs, but not all are for use in the X1. There's only 8 that are useable, so you'll get 2 spare. I presume some BMW models have a further 2 interior lights that use the flat fixings as opposed to the festoon fixings.

To do the rest of my X1 I need LED festoon bulbs for the sun visor/vanity mirror lights and the trunk lights.

Foot rest lights.

Does anybody know how to power the footwell lights.
I bought the lights, got the connector from a car scrapping plant, but now I don't know how it should be connected.
Thanks

They do fade but not like a bulb. A bulb consumes the power that is given regardless the voltage and for this reason they are fading, however, the LED lights are diodes and they work with a processor to prevent errors so under a certain voltage level, they stop working. So, they fade but in a certain moment thy shut off, not like a bulb who fades untill the end.

Thanks for the excellent explanation!

I upgraded my interior lights to LEDs this afternoon. I'm very pleased with the clean white light of the LEDs. The X1 should come this way IMHO.

I replaced the stock bulbs with Sylvania LED/Map Light Bulbs from AutoZone. I paid ~$8.99/bulb and replaced the 3 front dome lights and 2 rear "dome" lights (no need to replace the footwell lights since they are already LEDs). ~$45 was a significant savings over the BMW branded kit.

I went to Bimmian.com

Anyone help me with a comparison of the Ultimate, High Power 2.0, and Xenon colored. I'm thinking of the Ultimate as they offer the most light, but, other than cost, is their a side effect or penalty?

Comparison of the light output: http://www.bimmian.com/Interior-Xeno...-BMW-E84-X1#10
