Dave Mirra: celebrated BMX star dies aged 41 after apparent suicide
Jeez ... can hardly believe I am reading this :
Dave Mirra: celebrated BMX star dies aged 41 after apparent suicide How terribly sad. Enjoyed watching this guy. Truly amazing BMXer and in latter years, made the radical change to rally driving. Would have thought he had all the good things in life; a wife, two children, financially sound position in life and world class success in sport. Everything to live for. RIP and condolences to his friends and family. |

I grew up looking to him as an idol. I raced BMX for ~10 years and did tons of street riding. It is very sad news and I feel for the family he left behind.
I remember watching him land the first double back flip and landing the front flip at the X games. Dave Mirra is and always will be a legend in the BMX world.

All the amount of money and fame can't cure depression and the will to live. Very, very sad. Condolences to his wife and kids.

Obviously people who commit suicide are not thinking straight but I wish people like this would realize how their suicide could influence their fans. RIP.

That was my thought as well. I cannot begin to imagine the number of crashes he endured learning new bike tricks.

its all super sad. dave mirra was a huge influence on me as a kid as he got me into bmx. bmx was a huge part of my life for almost a decade. I filmed bmx professionally for a few years and transitioned into other content and then to commercial work that I do now. BMX started me down my career path. It is because of BMX and Dave Mirra that I am on this car forum now.
I met Dave Mirra on Gumball3000 in 2009 and I can say he was as great a guy off the bike as he was on it. Deeply sad about this. |

Man, growing up I only knew him as that guy who hosted Real World/Road Rules challenge on MTV. I knew he was a BMX biker but I had no idea how good he was or how much people looked up to his skill.
Big loss for the BMX community it sounds like. Very tragic. |

http://articles.latimes.com/2012/jul...sions-20120702 Too bad Mirra didn't pull a Junior Seau so they could study his brain. Just last week they confirmed Stage 2 CTE in ex-Giant Tyler Sash and he only played 2 years in the NFL (but when you factor in high school and college...) |

So sad.
Was never a fan of X-Games or those kinds of sports, but he was among a handful (Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Matt Hoffman, e.g.) where I would stop flipping through channels to watch a run. Dave was a magician on a BMX bike. |
