2.0T Engline Oil Capacity?
I looked on the digital manual and it was suppose to have the oil capacity but instead it was left blank. Anyone know the approximate oil amount needed for an oil change. There is no dipstick so I would like to be as close as possible.

I called 2 dealerships in my area: one said 6.5L, the other said 7L. I did my own oil change and put in 6L and the onboard computer said full (removed ~5.7L while the computer said full). I read on the F30 forums that the computer has space for extra oil because the N20 is known to consume oil.
In any case, please let us know how much oil you're installing and make sure its LL-01 rated. Some good examples are Castrol Syntec 0W30 and Mobil 1 0w40. OEM BMW oil (from the dealership) is also great. Oh and the filter should be a cartridge with a black end cap. |

Isn't the general rule of thumb, one quart per cylinder plus one? I don't believe the oil level shows over-fill correct? I wouldn't want to use so much, because that would lead to break down of seals. |

oil pan drain plug torque
OK I know this is a old tread, but I still can't find a torque spec for the drain plug. Has anyone discovered this mysterious number? As for the oil capacity I have accesss to Alldata and it clames 5.5L, but no torque specs.

Like all drain plugs I've dealt with, you should go hand tight then 1/4 turn. You just need to plug the hole, there's not much crank case pressure. I also bet BMW recommends the replacement of the drain plug at every change.

FWIW, I added 5 1/2 quarts during my first oil change = FULL after oil level check.
(measured out ~ 5 quarts when I drained the factory fill)
