bmw x1 turbo boost leak plastic pipe did you know

Did you know that the tube coming from the turbo to the intercooler is plastic on the x1s and on the 1 and 3 series its metal or aluminum.

Iam getting a boost leak at that point under high psi because you can only tighten the plastic but so much and the clamp provided with new intercooler is 3/4" wide its to wide to get a good grip on the coupling. The other end of the coupling attached to intercooler good and tight no problems. What did you do para to not have a boost leak?

When running stock boost around 8 psi it will never be a problem. I added the jb4 and a lot of other mods when running 12-14 psi low boost no problem, but 16-19 psi it makes a boost leak then the clamp works its way up and off the coupling.

So do i need to replace the plastic pipe from the turbo with one from a 3 series then i should be able to tight the clamp good and hopefully the metal pipe is even bigger.

Or should i just install a clamp that can grip the coupling very good and wont walk up and off of it. the clamp i found is 1/2 wide which is better since it can fit flater has a spring built in to provide content pressure and is ribbed on the inside of clamp with rolled edges. It sounds great to me but i can only tight the plastic pipe to a point until it buckels or cracks.

Garage List
Replace your charge pipe with an aluminum one from whomever. They all fit your 35i.

I am pretty sure that pipe is identical to the 335 and 135. I will check on real oem. The silicone hose ER provides is really too short, we had a hard time getting it to seal as well. Make sure the hose is ALL THE WAY ON both the intercooler and the pipe before you clamp it down, and crank it down pretty hard.

Yes, that part is the exact same on the X1, your tech doesn't know what he is talking about.
