Is the key fob for the 2015 X1 a new design or identical to the 2013 version? Anyone have a chance to compare the two?

I'm sure it's the same, they are both an E series and the FOB doesn't not change until the F series. Then the key gets bigger

Confirmed. I have a '15 X1. It has the same fob as my '11 E90.

its the same. Pretty lame that BMW used left over parts for the E84, at least give us key less start feature like on the f30 so those without comfort access don't have to insert the key every time we start the car...

My car wont start unless I plug the key into car. Both fobs, and its not the battery. Otherwise works fine.

As far as I know that's a Dealer only or very capable locksmith item. Also, the built in physical key would not be a match.

I think you have to insert the key if you don't have comfort access.

Hi,
With mine I programmed another key (at least I think it wasn't programmed before, dealer gave me 2 and only 1 worked) by putting the new key in the ignition slot and starting it with the old key in the interior of the car. I switched the car off and the new one worked. Hope this helps.

Garage List
If I already have a working key fob, do I still have to go to the dealer or can I purchase a new one and program it myself?

As far as I know I think you can just buy any used key of that style and program it yourself.
