MACO, service fees etc.

Dealer in WA is charging:
$400 for MACO
$180 for service fees
$240 for licensing
$152.50 for documentation/transfer fees

Are these normal? They seem to be high to me but wanted to get opinion.

Also, should they all be excluded from sales tax?

Once again, thanks, this group/forum has been super helpful.

Very Normal fees, although if referencing the MSRP the MACO and other fees should be included... If referencing invoice price, then thay are add ons...

As far as the other fees, they are region/state/location specific

Didn't pay MSRP and only additional fees were for documentation (which is really dealer's fee for doing the paper work) of $75 plus State Inspection and Tire fee, all totaled less than $100.

We are transferring plates and registration from another vehicle, so YMMV.

$400 for MACO
$180 for service fees
$240 for licensing

These look like #'s to inflate their profit margin and I would try to negotiate them out of the deal.

My reference was whether the OP was starting his negotiaions at MSRP and then going down or starting at invoice and going up...

If the former, and then the dealer added in MACO and Service fees, then they double dipped...

If starting at invoice, then MACO and Service Fees are added in with some dealers...

As a buyer, always better to start at invoice since the seller wants to start at MSRP!

BTW, if you find the right dealer, below invoice pricing was available. At least this was the case right before New Years.
