Buying a new BMW key
Hi there. Just bought a 2015 BMW X1 28i and it only came with one key. BMW wants $400 dollars for a new one. Is there some place on the web you can recommend to buy a new one? I don't need the physical key, just the fob/remote. Thanks.

I wonder if there is a way to have the mechanical key (which slides out of the fob) duplicated at a hardware store or locksmith. It wouldn't be a remote fob, but it would suffice as a spare. Worth a check!

Do not buy a used key or even something listed as NEW on eBay. You can not reprogram a used key to start your car and you need special tools to pair one of the new ebay keys to your car. Tools which cost way more than the price of one key from BMW. There is no "cheap" solution for these keys unfortunately.
I recently paid around $200 for a new key from the dealer for my 2014. Try a different dealer or try the guys at www.getbmwparts.com. EDIT: You can get a locksmith to cut the blade for you for around $20 but it wont do anything besides opening the physical door lock. |

Save the and pony up for the genuine key fob from bmw. You can try to arrange for the seller to share the cost for not disclosing the missing key.
