Good or bad deal for a new X1?

I was looking at the X1 xDrive 28i. I've heard that the X1 is in for some changes and people are getting deals, but I'm not sure how extreme the changes to this car really will be given it already has the 8 speed mated with the 4 cyl engine...

Anyway, it's hard to get good deals here since there is only one BMW group (2 dealerships owned) within a few hundred miles, but I thought I might as well start emailing sales. After a bit of back and forth, I got the following proposal:

- Black on black
- M Sport
- Ultimate package
- Lighting upgrade
- HK speakers
- Heated front seats
- servotronic

MSRP: $46,200
Sales price after discounts (before tax/license): $43,895

I know on occasion people get much better deals by percent off, but a lot of those tend to be on the stripped down cars. I'm not 100% yet on this but leaning toward it. I'm new to this forum and am curious as to what other people think of the overall deal. Remember that there is no competition here so I can't start a price war between dealers or similar.

Does that include the $750 BMW cash incentive? And are you eligible for the $500 loyalty cash and does that price include it?

I just ordered an Xdrive28i with an MSRP of $37,225. I am not eligible for the loyalty cash, but including the $750 cash incentive I got about $4k off MSRP.

There is more profit in a fully loaded car as each extra option has a markup between invoice and MSRP. If you have trouble bargaining with your local dealer, then I suggest you check out truecar.com

Good point. The price includes loyalty cash, but other discounts aren't itemized, so I don't know if it includes the $750. I set an appointment for Thursday and will try to haggle a bit more assuming I don't cool down on the deal to where I change my mind altogether. Truecar tells me there are no BMW dealerships in network near me. I think the nearest is Vegas, which is over 400 miles away.

I thought you would not be able to play one dealer off against another in the same group, but after getting a quote from one dealer, I asked another about 25 miles away if they would match it. They came back with an extra £500 for my part exchange and an extra £600 discount.
Things are probably different here, but there's no harm in trying, or as they say around here "shy bairns* don't get"

It's an interesting idea, but when I went to make an appointment to see the vehicle, the person asked which location I wanted to meet them at, so I don't think it would work.

It sounds like they are not offering much of a discount at all. If you are getting the loyalty discount, then that means a total of $1250 is already being given from BMW. So they are only offering you another $1k off.

For a couple thousand dollars, it would probably be worth your time to get on a plane and fly 400 miles to pick up the car somewhere else. You may want to tell your local dealer you will do that if they don't come down in price significantly.

You're right, and I did just send a request over to the Vegas dealership group to see what they would be willing to do. I've never purchased out of state, but if there aren't any nasty things to deal with and I save quite a bit... Well, we shall see. Thank you for the advice.

FWIW we bought our X1 via Pleasant Grove. We got the same as what you are pricing out except we had auto high beams and different paint. We also did EU delivery. I did a quick recalc of your pkg taking into account the above. From what we paid I would say you should be able to get the price down at least another $1k. We had no incentives or loyalty discounts.

Some say one should expect to pay more for EU delivery vs USA delivery. I.e an example for EU $1500 vs USA $1000 over invoice. That is because of the loss in profit built into USA delivery. So you might be able to get even more less than the $1K I note. I would think at least $1500 less.

As for buying in LV I would not sweat it if the deal is there. When you register the car you will need to pay state tax. Oddly enough buying the car in Utah county will save you a small amount as SL county tax slightly more.

Thank you! That is all extremely helpful. I'll look at changing my appointment to Utah County and will work on fighting down that price some more when the time comes. I'll also be following up on the Vegas side of things.

Given how similar our cars would be, how are you liking yours? Happy with everything?

See this thread & post on our and others likes and dislikes:

About the only thing I am currently debating are winter wheels. Ours came with the 355m wheels 8x18 front and back with all seasons RFT. So far they have been fine in the limited snow. But I am thinking of getting a winter set of wheel that are 17" that are go flats.

Thanks. I actually just flipped to my winter set on my 328i and if I swap cars (not sure if I'll trade in or not) I'd likely take my summer 18 inchers and use those with winter tires on the X1 since I've heard the wheels should be compatible. Expensive to do that given the price of 18" tires, but still, I've got the wheels (OEM, not the ones in my sig which were 19s and eventually cracked)...
