About the numbers. I feel like we're being lied to by Dinan. I've seen many stock 328 dyno results and I have yet to see anything seriously north of 230 WHP, they claim 266. That's ridiculous. Something is fudged with their results for both stock trim and their tune. 266 WHP would be just over 310 crank, 320 WHP would be almost 375 crank. That's crazy numbers for this engine, plain and simple. I know BMW is a little on the conservative side for power numbers, but I highly doubt they'd be 25% off.

I'll be interested to see the increase in power with my car, if it will be over the JB4 or not. I'll try to get into a different dyno shop when I get home from work this next week. I'll also get them to run the car with just the intake on. Then I'll go back to them once I have the Dinan stuff and compare all the data.

As of right now, the shop I just used to dyno with BMS JB4 had no idea what they were doing and I can see that there was way too much heat in my intake tract looking at the results, hopefully I'll have stronger, more accurate numbers from this second place which specializes in VW/Audi and not Subaru/GTR.
If they don't list the X1 as supported I would think that means you wouldn't get warrany coverage? Which is main reason to go with Dinan.

So a guy from Dinan posted this won't work on X models but they hope to have something out by end of year. Different harness needed evidently.

The harness would be the same as the X1 35i harness, the F30 box is tucked in with the brake booster. It would work fine, just the placement wouldn't be ideal.

Their box and the JB4 would look almost identical, except the names on them.

Like I stated before, Christmas time.

I recently talked with Dinan personnel and the outlook is bleak. He said that they will not officially support the X1 at any time due to low demand. Basically even though it might work at some point their warranty will not cover X1s.

That's weird. Over on the F30-32 forum there is a long thread on this and an actual Dinan employee contributes from time-to-time. About a week ago we wrote:

"I know the 'X' models of the N20/N55 engines are waiting on a slightly revised harnessing system to be available. That should be resolved in the near future and all those applications should all be available by years end. I believe the Z4 is in the same boat as those 'X' variants but engineering has gone for the weekend now so I have no one to confirm that with. Send me a PM when you get a chance so I can be reminded to ask them about it on Monday and I will let you know."

Tested it on my X1. Dinan Stage1

Way Way more power than my BMS Stage 1. Rear tires will break loose when T.C. is off.

MMacx1 that is great news! Can you provide a bit more detail? Are you working with Dinan and providing your 28i/x as a mule or is there any other info you have?

So as further evidence that the X! will be getting the Dinan tune...take a look at their website. They are asking for X1 owners to work with them. I'm sure this is what Mmacx1 is referring to. I can't wait obviously.

I'm beating a dead horse, but the X1 N20 and it's related computer are no different than any other N20 powered BMW. The only difference we have is the placement of the box isn't ideal when we buy a tune box for a different model.

Understood. But I would much rather have the properly "sized/designed" product if I have that option. Especially if I only have to wait a couple extra months.

Diana tunned

Yes I was one of the testers
With roughly 8 K miles on the X1 the tune is great and still I m getting 32 mpg on hwy. 26 on stop and go traffic. I also notice
More of a loud turbo spool
1500 plus install is worth knowing that the air & fuel mixture is being handled correctly with Diana tuned. I was told the install would take 1.5 hrs. Mine took a little Longer. More like 3hrs. I do not have a down pipe but was told it would spool up faster. Tracking control off, it will break the rear tire loose. Factory 19"
Diana tune should be available by the end of dec.

I haven't heard anything. I love mine. I would suggest calling Dinan directly to confirm.

Deleted prior post. NO issue from Dinan for N20. Spoke to Scott @ Dinan directly. It was the dipstick at my dealership who was wrong. He didn't even know the diff between N20 (my car), & N26 (the low emissions version - CA, etc..). He must be new, it is an anomally because this dealer is VERY Dinan savvy. I should have got that guys name (was a phone call).

I am tuning the car asap! I loved my Dinan Stg 2 335i.

update: got the Dinan Stg 1 into my car deal, only a small bump in pmt, dealer has in stock and I plan to do it on Friday. Car is spirited stock but really stoked to drive it after tune! We are coming out of a 2015 35i X1 Msport due to some issues (thanks BMW!), so just trying to stay even on performance while lowering pmt and improving MPG (MPG for my wife - this is her daily).

I will report impressions asap. I had dinan Stg 2 in my 335i and that car was rip the tires off strong.....I don't expect that w the 28i but I do expect similar to the GLA45 AMG I test drove recently (cool car). That car is sick fast but $60-65K....the X1 is a steal.

Got the Dinan installed in our 28i. AWESOME improvement. The car is smooth and fast. A tiny bit of increased lag from idle but that was expected. With the 8 cogs it isn't an issue to keep the car on boost. Really happy.

Note: We just came out of a new X1 35i (BMW buy back - repeat trans issues). The 28i with Dinan and the 8 speed is better/more fun IMHO.
I had an '07 335i with Dinan stage 2 and that car was a beast.

Wow, great endorsement! I think you may be the only person to actually have owned the 35i on the board and then moved into the 28i with a mild tune.

I have a stock xdrive 28 and already notice a bit of lag from idle if I mash the pedal. I have also read it on the forums too. Are you saying that with the dinan tune, the lag is even more noticeable?

I have the Dinan tune on an xDrive28i and don't notice any more lag from idle. I do notice much more rapid acceleration though.

I mean, they're both making similar power now (the stock 35 and the tuned 28), the 28 is lighter, and has a better transmission...so...I'm not sure what one would expect.

However, if you're willing to tune your car, the obvious comparison should be a tuned 35 vs. a tuned 28. This way, you don't casually ignore primary benefit of buying the 35 in the first place. You can make 80 HP on a tune only, and easy make 400+ with other minor bolt-ons. The performance increase between a tune on an N20 and a tune on an N55 is quite significant.

IMHO, while the N20 handles better with the lighter front end, the difference isn't huge. Not like the 35 doesn't drive very well too. And, seeing as it's not a sports car spending its time being tossed around on back roads or the track, but rather, more of a daily/highway car, I can see many people preferring the car with the big power advantage providing a greater increase in enjoyment vs. a slightly better handling car with a better trans.

That being said, I think the N20 is the X1 to buy unless you prioritize straight line performance. Different strokes for different folks.

My wife insists on fast cars. I guess I'm lucky in that regard.
