Uneven Brake Pads on Rotors
So yesterday I replaced my brake pads and rotors with the help of my buddy. Everything when smooth and no problems. I noticed while driving that the rear passenger rotor is only making contact with the brake pad on the outer half of the rotor. The other three aren't doing this and we did the same procedure for all four.
Why is it doing this? |

Haven't seen that before... Could be either an issue with the pad but more likely it's the caliper is either skewed or installed improperly (or the brake pad was installed incorrectly or there is some dirt between the pad and the caliper). Oh or it could be a bad rotor
I would take it apart and check. See what the wear is like on the back side of the rotor. |

Maybe pull the pad out, sand the bracket surfaces...but after what appears to be VERY little use, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You should start seeing full contact soon enough.

I would give it the once over, and no, at this point I wouldn't be worried. Let them break in a bit and I'll bet you'll see it start making full contact.

Some times when you over torque or under torque it will do that. Have you try Bedding the rotor and pads...you find how to do it in Forums and Web sites. |

The issue is probably with the pad not being perfectly manufactured. It will eventually make contact all the way across...I'd bet within a couple hundred miles. If you choose to bed then it will do it sooner.
My bedding technique... Accelerate to 80mph and brake heavily(WITHOUT engaging ABS) to 10-20mph and repeat cycle up to 10 times or until you feel brakes beginning to fade or you notice the necessity for more pedal pressure to slow the car. Be careful...once brakes begin to fade your stopping ability will decrease rapidly until the brakes cool. After you feel brake fade continue driving for 5 minutes or so to allow the brakes to cool. You will feel the fade diminishing. Do not come to a complete stop with hot brakes! Repeat this whole process once and you are good to go. It's best to do it where there is NO traffic or law enforcement. If you do get pulled over simply explain to the cop that you are bedding your brakes as advised by someone on the internet and the cop will surely let you go with a warning. |
