Don't worry, I did multiple jumps with the pre facelift X1, hold up just fine.

Great. I missed it by a week.

We are pleased to announce that starting with August, week 33 production, Option 216 (Servotronic) will be 100% equipment on the Model Year 2014 X1 2.8i (14XA) and X1 2.8xi (14XB). This change brings the X1 2.8 in line with the X1 3.5 and the New X5 (F15) which all have Servotronic as 100% equipment.

All Model Year 14 X1 2.8 vehicles equipped with 216 (Servotronic) that were produced prior to week 33 and have not be wholesaled will show no charge, which is a ($230/$250) reduction in wholesale/retail price.

What are the actual dates of "week 33 production"? Mine was built 10-12 days ago and I pick it up in Munich this Saturday. I didn't order servotronic - so wondering if it will have it or not?

Major bummer to lose hydraulic steering as a choice for the X1. The only silver cloud is that it's now a no-brainer to get the rear-wheel drive version--the hydraulic steering is the only thing that made me prefer the X-Drive over the S-Drive.

Not true at all. The xDrive X1's retain hydraulic steering, but have Servotronic assist, which the X1 35i has had all along. Believe me, it is not electronic steering, it feels massively better than the F30 steering.

I think many people are confusing servotronic with electronic power steering otherwise known as EPS. The two are not the same. Only the rear drive X1 has EPS which everyone (including pro reviewers) complains has numb steering and lack of road feel.

All wheel drive versions of the X1 28i and 35i retain our beloved hydraulic steering with power assist (servotronic). US 35i has always come standard with servotronic. Only now is BMW making servotronic standard with the drive 28i.

Yes, and confuse servo with Servotronic too. All X1s have servo.
What Servotronic does is adjust the strength of the servo depending on the rolling speed. That's what has become standard now for the 28i too.

I get 4 car magazines, have owned 14 BMW's and I have to disagree with numb steering and lack of road feel on an sdrive. Maybe its because I have M Sport and performance tires but it handles pretty good. I read one or two reviews saying they prefer hydraulic but don't get carried away thinking you have an M3 because you have hydraulic steering. I own a E93 335 and there isn't a huge difference in steering feel.

You mention handling and steering feel, two nearly independent things. I haven't driven an sDrive X1, only the F30, and there is almost no feedback through the steering. Our E82 had pretty poor feedback too, so this isn't necessarily an EPS only thing for BMW. However the xDrive X1 does have decent steering feel compared to that E82 and much better than the F30's I've driven, including M Sports with the variable steering controls. Notice, this is just steering feel, not handling.

Oops, my bad--I hope my confusion helps to clarify for others.

No the X1 is not an M3, but hydraulic steering makes a substantial difference in feedback. Some people could careless about road feel and some like complete isolation from the road. I don't fall in either category. Its your preference at the end of the day.

Correct - not handling but road feel, feedback, etc. Having driven those with EPS, you are right the feel is not there in my opinion. At least not until BMW perfects EPS.

I have to agree. I just picked up an x1 35 with MSport, Harmon Kardon, and Servo. It's my first 6cyl BMW, first upgraded stereo, and 2nd Msport. I don't think I can ever go back on any of these again.

What BMWs did you own previously if this is your first 6cyl? 318i?

Please stop saying servo when you mean Servotronic. All X1s have servo steering, either hydraulic or electric. Not all of them have Servotronic, which adjusts the force of the servo depending on the rolling speed.

Curious what this easy fix is too.

Damn...this is an old post. Suspect I was referring to upgrading the sound system.
